THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Senior People Generalist partners with leaders and employees to develop, implement, and evolve MHN’s people focused strategies that support engagement, performance, and organizational effectiveness. This role provides guidance across core People functions including benefits and compliance, employee relations, performance management, talent development, and HR programs. The Senior People Generalist helps develop, strengthen, and scale People processes, systems, and programs to support organizational growth, proactively identifying opportunities to streamline operations, modernize practices, and enhance the overall employee experience.
 
This role is based in Chicago, IL and follows a hybrid work schedule, working Tuesdays and Wednesdays onsite.

WHAT YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO:

  • Benefits Administration & Management
  • Lead the administration of employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, retirement, leave programs, and wellness initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions, eligibility, and enrollment.
  • Partner with benefits brokers and vendors to manage plan administration and resolve employee issues.
  • Lead the planning and execution of annual open enrollment, including employee communications and education.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable benefits regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA) and related reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance benefits programs and develop communications that increase employee awareness and engagement.
  • Identify and implement improvements to benefits processes, systems, and workflows to enhance efficiency and employee experience.

    Performance Management
  • Partner in the administration and continuous improvement of the company’s performance management processes, including interim and annual reviews, and initiatives that strengthen feedback practices and goal setting.
  • Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance management tools, timelines, and expectations.
  • Coordinate performance review cycles, including communications, reminders, and system updates.
  • Develop and maintain resources and tools that support effective performance conversations and employee development.
  • Support training and education for managers on performance management best practices and feedback techniques.

    Learning & Development
  • Partner in the development and implementation of blended learning programs (e.g., live training, e-learning, coaching, and peer learning) using modern tools and platforms.
  • Develop and maintain learning pathways and self-service resources aligned with roles, competencies, and career development goals.
  • Partner with managers to identify employee development needs and support individual growth and career progression.
  • Support programs and resources that strengthen manager capability in areas such as feedback, coaching, and team development.
  • Maintain learning tools, resources, and documentation that enable scalable and accessible development opportunities across the organization.

    People Operations
  • Oversee core People Operations processes including onboarding, offboarding, HRIS administration, and employee lifecycle management, and provide support for employee inquiries related to HR programs, processes, and policies.
  • Manage day-to-day HR administration including employee documentation, personnel files, audits, and record retention in compliance with legal and internal requirements.
  • Maintain and optimize HR systems and tools to ensure data integrity, automation, and scalability.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and internal policies across multiple states.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Payroll, IT, Finance, and Legal to align processes and maintain accurate employee data.
  • Drive continuous improvement of HR processes, policies, and documentation to enhance efficiency, consistency, and employee experience.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or HR certifications (e.g., SPHR, CEBS) a plus.
  • 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience supporting employee relations, benefits administration, and HR operations.
  • Proven experience designing and managing benefits programs, including plan design, vendor management, compliance, and communication.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. benefits regulations and best practices.
  • Track record of building scalable people programs from the ground up including experience leading L&D or talent development programs at scale.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and change management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decisions.
  • Experience both working with and implementing modern HR systems (e.g., Workday, Paycom, Lattice, Culture Amp, LMS platforms).
  • Experience working in fast-paced, matrixed, or evolving environments with the ability to adapt practices proactively to meet changing needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
