6 AM - 2:30 PM from Monday to Friday with possible overtime after the shift and/or on Saturdays depending on work needs.

Job Summary:

At Lucchese Bootmaker, craftsmanship defines our brand. Pegging by hand is a traditional boot making step where artisans hammer wooden pegs into the outsole to secure it to the rest of the boot. This process is critical for maintaining the boots fit, durability, and ability to be re-soleled when the soles wear out. Hand pegging allows for fine-tuning to the individual boots last and leather, ensuring a perfect fit and long-term performance its traditional craftsmanship with every detail of traditional hand mark.

Scope of Job:

The Pegging operation for cowboy boot making is to secure the outsole to the boot body using hand-hammered pegs, ensuring strength, waterproofing, and the ability to re-sole. It is both a functional and aesthetic step, integral to the boot’s durability and craftsmanship.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Peg by hand Operator will perform the following operations on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities may be modified to meet business needs:

  • Receive a rack full of 12 pairs of boots at a time.
  • Remove one boot at a time from the rack.
  • Stand Infront of workstation and place the boot on its stand upside down.
  • Once boot is placed on the boot holder make 20 holes on each side on the outsole with the pegging tool.
  • Then moist the outsole with water using a hand brush sponge.
  • Peg carefully the wooden pegs using a hand hammer.
  • After all wooden pegs are hammered into the boot push rack to the next production stage for the heels.
  • Must meet the required goals for the day.
  • Always keep workstation clean.
  • Assist other working areas, as necessary.

  • Minimize rework by adhering to process specifications and visual inspection standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to rotate stations without compromising efficiency or quality.

  • Excellent visual acuity to inspect finished components for quality compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders and production instructions.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and transition between operations efficiently.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven manufacturing environment.

 

Education, Experience, and/or Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in boot manufacturing, leather goods production, or similar industrial manufacturing environment required.

  • Ability to work standing for extended periods of 8-hour shifts.

  • Ability to reach, bend, and perform repetitive production tasks.

Skills Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
