We are looking for an experienced and meticulous PCB Layout Designer / ECAD Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. In this role, you will take technical ownership of the layout process for our high-complexity Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs), directly impacting the performance and reliability of our autonomous mobile robots (ANYmal). You will serve as the bridge between schematic concepts and robust, manufacturable hardware. Beyond layout execution, you will play a strategic role in owning our electronics component library and spearheading our transition to a new, professional ECAD tool. This position gives our electrical engineers the freedom to focus on schematics while you optimize our physical design pipeline for scale.
The Market & Our TechnologyANYbotics is revolutionizing industrial inspection with ANYmal, our quadrupedal robot designed to navigate the world’s most challenging environments—from offshore oil platforms to complex chemical plants. Our technology integrates advanced robotics software with robust hardware that must withstand extreme conditions, strict EMI/EMC standards, and rigorous safety certifications. By developing highly sophisticated, reliable, and optimized electronics, you enable our robots to operate autonomously where humans cannot.
Your Impact
- Own and manage the entire PCB layout design lifecycle for complex multi-layer boards across our active product lines
- Take full ownership and management of the ANYbotics electronics component library (InvenTree), ensuring high-quality metadata, symbols, and footprints
- Lead the evaluation, introduction, and migration execution to a new, industry-standard ECAD tool
- Conduct rigorous layout reviews for internal electrical engineers and external engineering contractors to maintain impeccable design standards
- Implement and update corporate EDRC design guidelines for layout routing, stack-ups, and constraints
- Partner closely with mechanical engineers and Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) partners to optimize Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) for serial and prototype production
Your Profile
- Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related technical field with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in electronics design and layout for industrial applications
- Expert-level proficiency in at least one industry-standard ECAD software tool (e.g., Altium, KiCad, Cadence)
- Proven track record of successfully designing complex multi-layer PCBs with strict functional safety and EMI/EMC compliance requirements
- Deep technical knowledge of signal integrity, high-speed routing, controlled impedance, length matching, and return path optimization
- Extensive experience navigating DFM/DFA constraints and collaborating directly with EMS partners for hardware productization
- Dedicated mindset toward component creation, database cleanliness, and rigorous library management
- Proactive, highly accountable professional who takes clear technical decisions and thrives in a fast-paced environment
Bonus Points
- Experience with rigid-flex PCB designs or layout techniques for wireless technologies
- Background or strong interest in Explosion-proof (Ex-protection) electronics design for hazardous environments
- Past participation in a company-wide ECAD tool or library migration project
- Background in electronics for aerospace, military, or highly ruggedized industrial equipment
