PURPOSE
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across assigned countries. Working independently, this role applies advanced payroll expertise to ensure payroll accuracy, statutory compliance, effective vendor management, and continuous process improvement. The Payroll Specialist serves as a key partner to HR, Finance, and external payroll providers while supporting the organization's global payroll strategy through standardization, governance, and continuous improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage end-to-end payroll operations for assigned countries, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Process payroll transactions, including new hires, separations, promotions, salary adjustments, bonuses, and other compensation changes.
- Perform payroll validation, reconciliations, audits, and analysis to ensure payroll accuracy and data integrity.
- Ensure compliance with local payroll legislation, tax regulations, statutory reporting, and employer obligations.
- Coordinate expatriate payroll administration, including tax reporting, tax filings, and related compliance requirements where applicable.
- Review payroll implications of equity compensation transactions and ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Partner with Global Business Services (GBS) to ensure accurate payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and payroll-related inquiries.
- Manage relationships with HR teams, Accounting, GBS and external payroll service providers to deliver high-quality payroll services and resolve employee queries promptly.
- Safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of payroll data, systems, and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and operational efficiency.
- Support and/or lead payroll-related projects, including system implementations, process standardization, transitions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
- 5–8 years of progressive experience managing multi-country payroll operations.
- Experience working in a GBS, Shared Services, or Centre of Excellence (COE) environment supporting regional or multi-country payroll operations.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, employment legislation, taxation, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience managing payroll audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance activities.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with the ability to interpret payroll and financial data.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical payroll deadlines.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, stakeholder management, and business partnering skills.
- Experience working with outsourced payroll providers and payroll systems; payroll implementation or transformation experience is an advantage.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- High level of integrity with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Knowledge of additional regional languages (e.g.Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, or Korean) is preferred.
