Summary of Role:
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, benefits administration, and excellent employee support. This role administers payroll, employee health plans, acts as liaison between employees and insurance providers, and supports associated administration of people related changes within company systems. This position resolves payroll and benefits-related problems and ensures effective use of plans and positive employee relations. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist makes certain that plans are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and that plan provisions are followed. This role provides administrative support to People Operations and Finance functions as needed, including record-keeping, file maintenance and HRIS entry.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing
- Accurately managing a semi-monthly payroll, monthly commissions, and quarterly and annual bonuses
- Reconcile quarter-end and year-end payroll tax forms
- Serve as point of contact for employee payroll and benefits issues
- Maintain records and reporting for multi-state tax accounts, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies
- Collect, verify, and process time and attendance data
- Calculate payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other withholdings in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Prepare and issue accurate paychecks or direct deposits on a scheduled basis
- Review and reconcile payroll reports to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies
- Respond to employee inquiries about payroll, deductions, and tax withholding in a timely and helpful manner
- Maintain accurate payroll records and generate reports as needed.
Benefits Administration
- Enroll new employees in various benefit plans such as health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement
- Conduct new-hire benefits orientations and provide information on plan options
- Process I9s, benefit changes, terminations, and qualifying life events
- Coordinate open enrollment activities and communicate changes to employees
- Reconciles benefits statements
- Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure compliance with regulations
- Address employee queries related to benefits coverage, eligibility, and claims resolution
- Partner with benefits providers to resolve issues and stay updated on plan offerings
Other Responsibilities
- Assist with worker's compensation administration, including timely claims submission and coordination with insurance carriers
- Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and benefits information
- Stay updated on changing payroll and benefits laws, regulations, and best practices
Location Information:
This role is required to be located near our Denver, CO office, with hybrid work from home flexibility.
Team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
Compensation:
Annual compensation range: $65,000 - $75,000, depending on experience

Requirements
- Minimum of 3+ years of proven experience in payroll processing and benefits administration
- A bachelor's degree in human resources, accounting, business administration, or a related field is preferred
- Strong payroll regulations and compliance knowledge, including tax laws and wage calculations
- Understanding benefit plan principles (health insurance, retirement plans, etc.)
- Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Proficiency in payroll software and HRIS systems. Paycom specific experience is a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines
