Payroll and Benefits Analyst
About Us
The Payroll and Benefits Analyst will take full ownership of the end-to-end Payroll process and manage our internal benefit programs. This position will work closely with other members of the People team on Onboarding, Offboarding, Leaves of Absence, pay increases, and merit cycles. This position will also work with the Finance team to ensure that payrolls are reconciled correctly to the general ledger and that compliance requirements and controls are met. They will also interface directly with employees on questions or issues regarding payroll and benefits. This role will be a key contributor in our efforts to bring payroll and benefits systems in-house and will be considered the subject matter expert for the payroll implementation.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end to end payroll process, including the application of processes and policies to ensure accurate payment of both weekly and biweekly payrolls
- Manage all payroll operations, including tracking pay changes, importing hours from a time keeping system, auditing controls, and responding to employee questions
- Ensure accurate processing of all special pay items such as termination pay, severance, garnishments, holidays, promotions, merit increases, employee time off policies, stock transaction tax recordings, and more
- Drive process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and compliance and assess opportunities for process automation
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements, including state tax registrations
- Manage benefit programs and be the first point of contact for employees that have questions about enrollments, coverage, changes, and policies. Includes explaining deductibles, in vs. out of network coverage, out of pocket maximums, statement of benefits, member responsible billing amounts, etc.
- Work with benefit carriers and brokers to resolve complex employee issues such as claim denials and appeal processes
- Provide analysis on benefit enrollments, premium increases, cost share models, and utilization in support of the annual benefits renewal process
- Execute open enrollment including employee communications, presentations, and system configurations
- Administer Leaves of Absence by meeting with employees to discuss FMLA eligibility, medical certification, start and end date communications, adding dependents to health care coverage, and estimated pay
Qualifications
- 4 years experience processing payroll in a non-PEO environment
- 2-4 years of benefits administration experience
- Experience administering leaves of absence and reasonable accommodations
- Experience reviewing and auditing timecards in a non-exempt time tracking system
- Experience configuring pay rules, time off policies, benefits deductions, and garnishments in an HRIS/Payroll system
- Participation in an HRIS & Payroll system implementation and external audits.
- Strong proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, data visualization, etc.
Nice to haves
- Experience creating and testing payroll controls for SOX compliance
- Experience with 401(k) administration and compliance
