The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Senior transactional attorney who takes charge of complex real estate finance matters and builds lasting client relationships. The role also involves guiding junior lawyers and helping the leadership group set the direction of the practice.
What you'll do
- Direct sophisticated real estate finance deals from the initial engagement to the final closing.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for developer clients and steer their transactions forward.
- Partner with firm leadership to help plan the practice's growth and widen its geographic reach.
- Prepare, negotiate and finalize the core partnership, governance and lending documentation for each deal.
- Guide associates and paralegals, coordinate working groups on each matter and help with training.
- Structure deals that bring together several tax and financing frameworks under federal tax law.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- At least 8 years of transactional experience in affordable housing, with substantial depth in tax credit structures.
- Demonstrated history of leading complex matters on your own, start to finish.
- Prior experience at a private law practice rather than solely in an in-house setting.
- Background advising developers on both the 4% and 9% credit programs.
- Experience closing financings that draw on several funding sources.
- Strong command of drafting and negotiating partnership, operating and loan agreements.
- Solid understanding of how Section 42 and Section 142 of the Internal Revenue Code interact.
- Familiarity with federal housing programs, government-sponsored enterprise financing and GP/LP acquisitions.
- Experience leading junior lawyers and support staff and working directly with clients.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, with a New York license or a willingness to obtain one.
- Current bar membership with a clean disciplinary record.
- Collaborative, energetic and personable, at ease in a flat team structure and committed to affordable housing.
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to keep growing at a senior level.
- Willingness to travel to the office from time to time.

Benefits
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary: USD 300,000 to 400,000 per year
Location and work model
- New York, NY or Buffalo, NY, United States
- Hybrid preferred, in office Monday to Thursday; remote with periodic office visits is acceptable
- Full-time
