Summary:
The Daily Local News, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking a part time Obituary Clerk to join the team! The Weekend Classified/Obituary Clerk will input and process all obituaries for the Philadelphia region. The clerk will work closely with funeral homes and families to place obituaries in all the area newspapers.
*This is a remote role but you must reside in the state of Pennsylvania.
What you will do:

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with Funeral Homes, providing excellent customer service
  • Ensures obits are efficiently and accurately handled and customers are treated politely
  • Enter obituary, billing and payment (when applicable) information in BrainWorks
  • Contact the funeral homes/families with the proof and pricing
  • Proofread the obituary before publication
  • Help in other classified categories when needed


What you will bring:

  • Ability to work weekends and some holidays (the schedule for this role is one weekend day per week, along with some holiday and vacation coverage)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines


The hourly wage is $15.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).

The Daily Local News, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is a daily newspaper based in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The newspaper covers Chester County news and provides limited coverage of neighboring Lancaster and Delaware counties. It covers local and national news, sports, culture, and entertainment.
