Parallel Works is a Chicago-based startup focused on technical computing for science, engineering and business applications. The Parallel Works SaaS platform makes high performance computing (HPC) workflows easy, fast and collaborative on hybrid cloud and supercomputing environments. The platform acts as middleware between these wide ranges of computing resources and allows organizations to leverage their resource, billing and user hierarchies in a uniform way. Our customers range from small and nimble startups and research organizations creating innovative computing and ML pipelines to the world’s leading flood modeling engineers to government weather and defense agencies to global automotive suppliers.
The Role:
This position involves development and enhancement of the Parallel Works platform, which runs on all three leading public cloud platforms: AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. You’ll be responsible for developing the core platform and its backend services. You will interact with HPC job schedulers, cloud APIs, workflow management frameworks, and container systems to create a responsive, reliable, and user friendly system. Parallel Works provides developers the rare opportunity to interact with cutting edge cloud and on-premises technologies. We are very interested in hearing from individuals with experience architecting high performance computing clusters, parallel file systems, high throughput networking, and GPU clusters.
Required Experience
Minimum:
- BSci in Computer Science or related field.
- 5-7+ years of programming experience in Golang or TypeScript WebSockets RabbitMQ or other queue based software architecture
- Database experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL
- Distributed computing, good understanding of how software is load balanced and deployed in production
- Tunneling and port forwarding
- Comfortable with Linux operating system, command-line shell interpreters and scripting techniques
- Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests
Desired Experience:
- Advanced degree (MSci or PhD) in Computer Science
- Automation experience using Terraform, Ansible, and Python scripting
- Familiarity with HPC schedulers such as PBS and Slurm Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cloud resources and design patterns in AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Deploying containerized applications on Kubernetes, Docker and Singularity Architecting high performance computing clusters - on cloud and/or on premises
