What you'll be doing:
As a Paralegal / Legal Assistant, you will work directly under the supervision of our General Counsel. You will work with related stakeholders in the organization on a variety of legal and legal-adjacent matters as they arise. You’ll have the chance to assist with difficult, nuanced, high-stakes legal matters at a fast-moving and growing international non-profit straddling the tech and mental health services sectors, and interact regularly with legal and non-legal staff independently.
Responsibilities:
As a Paralegal / Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting our Legal Department and related stakeholders as needed with day-to-day legal and legal-adjacent issues for the org, which may include, subject to oversight and guidance from the General Counsel:
Contracts / Contract Management:
- Draft / prepare first drafts of contracts, amendments, NDAs, separation agreements, etc.
- Review draft contracts / redlines for existing and new business.
- Negotiation / communication regarding business items, legal items with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
- Update, file & log all templates, drafts, and signed versions of contracts, releases, NDAs, etc. & maintain records related thereto.
- Work cross-functionally with stakeholders to streamline legal processes.
Litigation / Regulatory:
- Communicate with outside counsel re legal matters as needed, which may include corporate transactional, litigation, immigration, intellectual property, or other matters.
- Assist in reviewing and drafting litigation filings, regulatory & auditor documentation, legal disputes, chronologies, and memoranda.
- Perform legal research on relevant case law, regulatory provisions, & government compliance matters as needed.
Risk Management
- Monitor and report to General Counsel on legal developments in key & assigned legal areas affecting the org, including but not limited to labor & employment, taxation, governance, regulatory, data privacy & security.
- Research legal issues related to business operations, employees, volunteers, services to inform Legal Department and Senior Leadership Team.
Other
- Assist with drafting board meeting materials, communications concerning alleged Code of Conduct violations by volunteers, and other matters as assigned.
- Process, log, and maintain records associated with transcript requests & disclosures, volunteer account deletion / Right to be Forgotten requests, volunteer disciplinary actions
- Triage requests for Legal team from org teams & stakeholders.
- Other ad hoc tasks such as policy updates, compliance monitoring, scheduling meetings, tracking deadlines, etc.
Qualifications:
- Education. B.A./B.S. required.
- Skills. Meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, agility in response to changing circumstances, and utmost regard for confidentiality. Exhibits discretion and strong judgment. Demonstrated ability to act collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, particularly in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Experience. 3+ years experience. Ideal candidate will have experience working in-house with a nonprofit, particularly in NY and in the mental health sector. Experience with government contracts and HIPAA a plus.

The full salary range for this position, across all United States geographies, is $54,516-$77,416 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location. We pay competitively in the tech-forward nonprofit space and offer a robust benefits package.
