Role Overview
The Paralegal plays an active role in managing legal matters across mortgage and banking operations, with a primary focus on foreclosure, bankruptcy proceedings, and subpoena management. This position provides critical support to the Senior Assistant General Counsel and the Chief Legal Officer, requiring a high level of responsiveness, attentiveness, and strong collaboration with internal operations and outside counsel.
Reporting Relationships
- Reports directly to the Senior Assistant General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer.
- Direct supervision over administrative assistants may be assigned.
Essential Duties: In addition to related job duties as assigned, this position will:
- Oversee legal processes related to default servicing, specifically foreclosure and bankruptcy matters.
- Review, track, and draft responses to subpoenas and other third-party legal requests within regulatory timelines.
- Partner regularly with the Mortgage Servicing team to ensure compliance and alignment on pending legal actions.
- Manage workflow and track milestones within LawVu legal matter management software.
- Handle data entry, reporting, and tracking within the MSP mortgage servicing system.
- Maintain productive and professional ongoing communication with outside counsel.
- Provide support for corporate mortgage licensing updates, renewals, and maintenance.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to contracting, third-party originations, and compliance initiatives.
- Support front desk operations or coverage as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the legal department to include the front desk, compliance, licensing, third party origination and facilities.
- Regular, reliable and predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of this role.
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge
- Education: Paralegal Certification and 2 to 4 years of experience as a paralegal within the mortgage, banking, real estate, finance, or related industries.
- Legal Expertise: Experience in default servicing legal processes, reviewing and handling corporate contracts, and conducting legal research. Knowledge of corporate governance, litigation management, and compliance issues within the mortgage or financial industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in legal document management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and legal research platforms. Professional experience utilizing LawVu is preferred. Working knowledge of MSP mortgage servicing software is preferred and familiarity with mortgage lending systems and the loan process is required.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to provide guidance and oversight to administrative assistants, managing workloads, providing mentorship, and resolving operational issues within a team environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex legal concepts to team members, outside counsel, and stakeholders at various levels.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, analyze legal issues, identify risks, and provide sound solutions under pressure.

Skills Required
