Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
As a Packaging Engineer within Supply Chain, the role focuses on developing and executing Lean Material Systems (LMS) to create efficient, cost-effective designs across the GM enterprise Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support launch execution, continuous improvement, and best practices, Planning and implementing plant material strategies, such as material flow, routings, storage space, layout development, kitting, and sequencing.
What you'll do:
- Handles all container and packaging requirements/issues
- Assign/re-assign container type to new/current part number
- Interfaces with plant facility issues
- Maintains standard pack data and informs affected personnel of changes
- Measures container performance (inform central group if container needs improvement)
- Interface with Material Launch coordinator / Pilot Support Coordinator to monitor and validate containers at pilot
- Organizes plant reviews / buyoffs of test shipping packs and racks
- Resolves part quality issues caused by inadequate containers
- Liaisons with central containerization
- Participates on PFEP team
- Work with containerization on developing & coordinating the acquisition of external in-sequence racks
Required qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Supply chain, Material handling, manufacturing.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Material, packaging, Industrial) or equivalent experience.
- High level on interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Strong analytical, computer, presentations and problem-solving skills.
- High level of analytical ability and problem solving where problems are unusual and difficult.
- Knowledge of measurement/work standards, ergonomic principles, material optimization and facility layouts strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of supply chain Process and GM Plant Material Experience.
- High level of communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to present findings to all levels of organizations.
Preferred qualifications
- Proficient in AutoCAD, GMOS, MGO, OLCT
- Project management and launch execution experience
- Warehouse management systems experience.
