Outside Sales Reps are responsible for finding and completing sales of our full line of building materials and installed services with builders and subcontractors both residentially and commercially. Yes, you will “sell projects,” but once a job is sold, you need to manage that job and that relationship. You’ll keep up to date information on your customers’ product use and trends, visit job sites as needed, maintain schedules, and put out fires. A Carter Outside Sales Decking Specialist is responsible for presenting and selling all product lines with a focus on decking products, as well as establishing and growing relationships with customers in our market. 
Requirements:

  • A Minimum of 2 years previous knowledge and experience selling Decking products including wood, composite, pvc, a variety of railings and other outdoor living products. Experience in other building materials helpful.
  • Ability to cold call future customers and to grow relationships with existing customers
  • Ability to read blueprints and do take-offs with knowledge of local building codes
  • Demonstrated ability to increase sales and improve profitability
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong sense of customer service
  • Decision making abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Reliable transportation and valid drivers license
Responsibilities:
  • Develops relationships with customers and subcontractors to determine their needs and provide beneficial services to them 
  • Responsible for attaining and maintaining the sales of all products, focused on outdoor living and decking 
  • Gives presentations to builders and provides expert advice on product features and benefits. 
  • Do take offs and prepare estimates for these products and ensure they are ordered and shipped accurately and on time.

Skills Required

  • At least two years of experience selling decking products, including wood, composite, PVC, railings, and outdoor living products.
