Job Summary:

The Outbound Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the outbound dock operations, ensuring the efficient and timely loading and unloading of freight. This role involves managing the outbound crew, maintaining safety and compliance standards, and optimizing dock operations to meet company goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills and experience in warehouse or logistics management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor the outbound team.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure high-quality work standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement professional development plans.
  • Oversee the loading and unloading of trucks to ensure efficient and accurate freight handling.
  • Coordinate dock activities to maximize productivity and minimize delays.
  • Ensure all Hazardous Materials are handled in accordance with DOT regulations and secured in a proper manner and all placards are applied appropriately to each load. 
  • Ensure all outbound shipments are properly labeled, documented, and meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure all dock operations comply with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Provide safety training and ensure all dock workers are aware of safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of dock equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and loading ramps.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure the dock area is clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Ensure OS&D freight is processed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with management, drivers, and other departments to coordinate outbound shipments.
  • Provide timely updates on shipment status, delays, and issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Resolve any operational issues that arise during dock activities promptly and effectively.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance dock operations efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide training and education to employees to improve performance and quality of work.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in logistics and warehouse management.
  • Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics, warehouse management, or a related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience in warehouse or dock operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Knowledge of warehouse safety regulations and best practices.
  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Forklift certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Comfortable working in various conditions, including exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and variable weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the dock area for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment includes exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and variable weather conditions.
  • Fast-paced and dynamic work setting requiring adaptability and flexibility.
  • May involve long hours and shift work, including nights and weekends, depending on operational needs.

Skills Required
