The Outage Manager partners with Caltrol customers, Account Managers, and the Instrumentation & Valve Services (I&VS) team to ensure the successful execution of valve and regulator repair services, replacement valves, and automation solutions for both scheduled outages and day-to-day service needs. This role manages work from initial customer engagement through job completion and invoicing, including defining scope, preparing quotes, coordinating field and shop service teams, resolving discovery items, and securing customer approvals.
The Outage Manager also oversees quote and invoice preparation for Inside Repair staff, ensures documentation compliance, and helps drive profitable execution of service jobs. Our ideal candidate has a service industry background, strong communication and organizational skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
What you'll be doing:
- Create quotes, coordinate work, communicate with customers, close out jobs, and maintain strong profit margins.
- Provide business system updates for plant outages and maintenance turnarounds, as well as input to management for budget forecasting.
- Assist in customer problem resolution.
- Interact with customers, factory, and other Caltrol teams and departments to develop process improvement and increased customer satisfaction.
- Actively participate with team members to achieve team sales and gross profit goals.
- Take an active role in the assessment of the economic feasibility of the repair of control valves versus replacement.
- Participate in internal schedule and manpower planning meetings.
- Participate in regular workload review meetings.
- Sustain a working knowledge of the commercial and financial operations of Caltrol’s business.
Hiring Range
The hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000 annually. This is the pay scale range Caltrol reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of this posting. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary based on geographic region, skills, qualifications, and experience of the candidate, along with the requirements of the position.
What we’re looking for:
- High school or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in dealing with Control valves, sales, and/or repair, with good general technical sales competency.
- Strong Sales and Customer interface skills.
- Excellent verbal and written skills to effectively communicate.
- Exceptional follow-up skills.
- Strong technical knowledge of I&VS Repair services.
- Knowledge of internal order entry process and procedures.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle special assignments and schedule demanding workload to meet customer deadlines.
- Willingness to work overtime as the situation requires.
- A high skill level with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ownership mentality.
Preferred:
- A background in process control sales or applications.
- College degree in Engineering or Technical field preferred, but not required.
- Experience in selling/servicing industrial industries.
- Strong Familiarity with most Fisher Control valve models and types.
- Experience with control valve sizing with Fisher training courses, Control Valve Engineering I and II.
- Knowledge of Emerson Process Management products and services.
- Understanding and experience with Caltrol’s key industries, including refining, mining, power, food/beverage, water, and HVAC
- Knowledge of ball valve, control valve, valve repair, butterfly valve, process valve, valve assembly, electric actuators, valve automation, pneumatic actuators, etc.
