The Optical Networks NPI Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in our Global Customer Engineering Optical Practice organization. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving the testing and validation of new products, ensuring they meet the highest standards and requirements of our hyperscaler and strategic customers. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the development of innovative optical networking solutions. Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of new optical networking products, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and interoperability standards.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, product management, pre-sales, and customer engineering, to gather requirements, provide feedback, and ensure alignment with customer needs.
  • Develop and execute test plans, scenarios, and scripts to evaluate the functionality, capacity, and resilience of optical networking solutions.
  • Analyze test results, identify bottlenecks, and provide recommendations for improvements to enhance the overall performance and user experience.
  • Document test procedures, results, and findings, ensuring accurate and comprehensive records for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in optical networking to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Engage with hyperscaler and strategic customers to understand their unique requirements and provide tailored solutions and support.
  • Participate in customer demonstrations and proof-of-concept projects, showcasing the capabilities and benefits of our optical networking solutions.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during the deployment and integration of new products, ensuring a smooth and successful customer experience.
  • Lab Management tasks such as inventory management, CAPEX/OPEX planning might be required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on optical networking and IP technologies.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in optical networking engineering, with a proven track record in testing and validation of optical networking solutions.


  • Hands-on experience with optical network equipment, such as transceivers, amplifiers, and optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs).
  • Proficiency in optical network design, planning, and optimization, considering factors like capacity, reach, and network topology.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and be able to remain calm and focused in stressful situations.  This includes the ability to maintain order and a methodical troubleshooting approach that is focused on successful lab trial.  It also requires cross-organizational leadership skills that will build healthy relationship and obtain required support through professional and productive method
  • Experience in a centralized repair/troubleshooting/testing environment that includes SONET, SDH, DWDM, OTN, TCP/IP, and routing / switching 
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple issues, projects, and/or duties simultaneously 


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.


  • Willingness to stay updated with emerging technologies and trends in the optical networking industry.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic test environment
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required for customer engagements and project deployments.

Skills Required
