The Opportunity

Position will lead a team of sourcing professionals to drive transformative sourcing and category strategies in close collaboration and partnership with Ally's Technology organization to deliver forward-looking, proactive and best in industry results in supply chain and supplier risk management.

Responsible for all aspects of team activities, directing organizational and process change to optimize performance and mitigate risk. Manage and coach strategic projects through all phases. Responsible for managing and controlling scope, quality and schedule while overseeing all team activities and performance. Pivotal role in developing and nurturing close partnerships and relationships with Ally's primary lines of business and leadership teams to develop progressive and high impact supply chain strategies that support, advance and propel key business goals and strategies. Ensures team consistently and effectively creates, communicates and executes all strategic sourcing programs while continuously looking for ways to improve business relationships and operational performance through robust KPI and operational management techniques.

Leader will also ensure complete, accurate and proactive management of all contract inventories, P2P system/project updates, data quality metrics, service levels, supplier risk assessments, and sourcing events.

The Work Itself

Position reports to the Ally Chief Procurement Officer and will lead a team of supply chain professionals responsible for driving industry-leading and progressive sourcing, supplier and category strategies in direct support of the Ally Technology organization.

  • Candidate will have primary responsibility for developing, enhancing and sustaining successful business partnerships with key functional leaders across the Ally Technology organization by developing a deep understanding of key business strategies, objectives and challenges and leveraging his/her extensive industry-specific category and sourcing expertise to devise and execute supply chain strategies that support and advance the business strategies.
  • Candidate will be a recognized and valued expert in the types of spend categories and key suppliers that support the Ally Technology organization and will proactively develop strategies to improve service quality, lower costs and drive innovation through key supply chain partners supporting the business
  • Will oversee all sourcing/procurement activity with a select group of high exposure and critical supplier relationships in support of the Technology organization
  • Identify and collaborate with a variety of internal colleagues and workgroups critical to executing sourcing strategies, negotiating contracts, managing third party relationships and onboarding/offboarding supplier partners - e.g., Ally Legal group, Information Security, Third Party Risk Management, HR, Data Privacy, Compliance, Financial Planning and Analysis, CFOs, Supply Chain Shared Services, other Sourcing Managers, Leaders and team members, etc.
  • Manage/facilitate highly effective fact-based sourcing processes and negotiation strategies to maximize business value and risk mitigation.
  • Work with business partners to maximize compliance and optimize spend against established and preferred engagement procedures, buying channels, supplier contracts and related programs.
  • Support the end-to-end management of critical supplier relationships including constructive handling or resolution of issues and disputes, risk management, contract inventory management, performance and scorecard management, negotiation strategies, etc.
  • Support and enable all required supplier risk management activities within the Technology organization.
  • Identify and implement consistent and continuous process, policy and performance improvement programs across all areas of responsibility
  • Create and maintain an environment of transparency, performance and risk management that encourages innovation, integrity and teamwork.



The Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years of industry-specific sourcing and category management experience having worked in consumer or commercial financial services, auto financing, and/or a technology and engineering business environment, supporting traditional areas of indirect spend such as data center infrastructure (hardware, software and services), cloud services, telecommunications services, network and data center operations, end user technology infrastructure and support, etc.
  • Bachelor Degree required, MBA or JD strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of strategic sourcing, negotiation and other relevant procurement management experience within the financial services industry.
  • Experience with direct management of staff and virtual teams.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, business and industry analysis, financial analysis, supplier selection and management, contract negotiations, conflict management, decision making, strategic thinking.
  • Extensive experience leading highly complex and challenging sourcing projects, running RFx's/auctions and negotiating large, complex third party supply contracts - a true supply chain expert who can lead and coach sourcing teams to a higher level of performance and output.
  • Extremely strong analytical ability to develop, analyze and present complex cost models, business cases, and strategic plans
  • Must possess very strong persuasion and individual communication skills
  • Comfortable working in an evolving and dynamic business environment with ability to seamlessly multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently and effectively manage large projects across multiple parties while delivering industry-leading results
  • Demonstrated agility, disposition and ability to handle very difficult situations with clients and/or vendor negotiations
  • Ability to organize data and exercise highly effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build extremely strong relationships with internal business partners and experience working with multiple business partners in a collaborative and team-oriented manner.
