About the Role:
We are looking for a Privacy Program Manager to support the daily operation and ongoing maturity of Opendoor’s privacy program. Reporting to the Senior Counsel - Data Privacy and Security, this role will be responsible for performing day-to-day program/project management activities that support the strategy, design, and execution of Opendoor’s privacy programs, and will partner with legal, business, and technology stakeholders to effectively document, integrate, and maintain privacy controls in Opendoor’s business operations. The Privacy Program Manager will play a key role in ensuring that Opendoor meets its legal and regulatory obligations, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act. 

Specifically, our Privacy Program Manager will be expected to:

  • Support processes and control frameworks for compliance with data privacy security laws in existing and emerging markets 
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to operationalize privacy controls; create, monitor, and report on performance indicators to determine the effectiveness of privacy controls
  • Support development and maintenance of privacy policies, procedures, standards, and guidance; execute implementation plan for communication and awareness of new and changed policies
  • Support risk assessments; document gap analysis and assist with development and implementation of remediation plans
  • Manage projects related to privacy program initiatives; communicate progress, escalations, and issue analysis to key stakeholders; effectively lead change management efforts across the organization
  • Monitor and stay familiar with applicable global laws, regulations, and industry standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience managing aspects of a data privacy/security or compliance program, including managing project plans from start to finish, communicating with stakeholders, and bringing together cross-functional teams to execute towards a common goal * Strong time management and prioritization skills with a demonstrated ability to execute against multiple projects and excel in a fast-paced work environment * Ability to communicate well with various stakeholders, including cross-departmental teams and leadership
  • Skilled in Jira/Confluence, Google Suite, and SQL
  • Excellent written communication skills - we value clear and concise disclosures, terms of use, policies, and process documents
  • Excited and passionate about data privacy/security and compliance
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and high attention to detail
  • Good judgment, including the ability to preserve confidentiality 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, law degree (J.D.) or related project/program management and/or data privacy/security education and experience
  • 3-5+ years experience in project/program management and/or; data privacy/security
  • PMP/PMI certification preferred
  • Familiarity with applicable privacy laws and regulations preferred, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, California Financial Information Privacy Act 
  • IAPP certifications preferred (CIPP, CIPM, CIPT)

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

My team works with our sales and support operators. We manage our multiple telephony platforms, including our call center software. Last year, we replaced our old call center vendor solution with a new custom-built telephony platform. Building the unique features each team has been one of our central challenges for much of the past year.

I started at Opendoor as an intern, responsible for small improvements to our home valuation model’s accuracy. Now, I am one of the leaders on our team - I’m responsible for setting team vision, overseeing systems design for other IC’s, and leading P0 initiatives such as a pricing workflow overhaul that we launched after COVID-19.

Analytical problem solving requires creativity too. I always encourage my team to consider all the tradeoffs between different options - what if you need to solve the problem in 1 day? How about 6 months? How about unlimited compute resources? We often come up with more creative and better solutions when we intentionally consider all options.
