Your Opportunity

As a Design Principal within the Workplace practice, you will be expected to demonstrate leadership at a Business Center level, including revenue generation through business development, maintaining client relationships and overseeing projects. You will participate as an active member of leadership team setting strategy and direction for the business, supporting day to day operations, engaging and mentoring staff. In addition, it is expected that you will lead a Workplace practice that drives content/subject matter expertise, promotes design and discipline excellence, collaboratively across the region. You will also work with Business Center, Regional, Sector and Service line leadership in this practice area to leverage the capabilities of Stantec to build a thriving Workplace practice.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop business and client relationships to enhance the Workplace portfolio and in support of an annual business plan.
  • In collaboration with colleagues, engage in M&BD activities and local industry events to enable the firm to win work, yielding $1.5M to $3M in annual net revenue associates with these efforts.
  • Build relationships with your colleagues throughout Stantec and specifically in the Workplace sector to advance sector specific goals and objectives.
  • Lead, assume responsibility, and perform effectively at the project level, to achieve key performance indicators while assuring that client's budget, schedule, program and design targets are met.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work from the opportunity stage through design and execution to successfully deliver the project to the client.
  • In collaboration with other principals, set the strategic direction and manage Business Center operations.
  • Identify and assist in managing the Workplace studio team structure, determine studio personnel needs, make staff selection, training, evaluation and discipline decisions
  • Mange up to 10 colleagues, including mentorship to achieve personal development goals that align with the business.
  • Be an external presence for Stantec in their respective industry and/or community.
  • Take personal responsibility for adherence to all policies, including project management framework and health, safety, security and environment practices.
  • Take personal responsibility for exceptional execution and profitability of their projects.



Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with managing large teams, and/or practice group.
  • Project directing, project management and team leadership experience.
  • Capable of generating Workplace work.
  • Visibility in the field, including industry memberships, and conference speaking engagements.
  • Ability to lead and work on multiple projects at once.
  • Deep professional roots, client network, and knowledge of the market in the Virginia, DC and Maryland area.
  • Excellent customer/client relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.


Education and Experience

  • Degree in a relevant field and 15+ years of relevant professional experience.



Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
