As a DBA Manager II IT Infrastructure collaborates with company customers, staff members, IT colleagues, and other collaborators to define customer requirements, assess available technologies, and implement and configure viable solution options. DBA Manager II IT Infrastructure ensure the availability, performance and technical security of infrastructure solutions within operational guidelines. They are responsible for handling, patching, and upgrading the technologies within their infrastructure area to ensure supportability and fit within the technical landscape. They are responsible for planning and responding to service outages including appropriate communications to involved collaborators. They maintain good relationships with customers and IT colleagues to meet expected customer service levels. They are responsible for on-time project delivery, which requires a clear understanding of expectations and capabilities of their team.

DBA Manager II IT Infrastructure provide analytical and technical expertise within a technical infrastructure area, helping to identify innovative solutions for business opportunities, provide and recommend data security solutions when required, and apply formal assessment techniques to make alternative recommendations. They are expected to work and communicate effectively with personnel at all levels within the organization. They work with the IT and Business functions to figure out annual IT initiatives that will support their strategic objectives.

The DBA Manager II IT Infrastructure is experienced with project management techniques and is capable of leading many projects at one time. They plan, direct and oversee all aspects of a project and are accountable for ensuring project delivery. They also assure that solutions are configured and implemented in a way that aligns with architectural standards and established methodologies and practices. They must respond appropriately to system maintenance needs and use their analytical abilities to isolate and prioritize problems. They are responsible for implementing and adhering to PPG's internal IT control policies.
Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of business unit objectives by leading effectively and efficiently the implementation and support of infrastructure solutions. They are ultimately responsible for the successful implementation of project plans
  • In this capacity, they must maintain awareness of current IT projects within PPG and planned projects in their own IT group in order to ensure alignment with PPG's Global IT infrastructure strategy
  • Prioritize resources and tasks and are responsible for developing contingencies, adjusting scope, monitor on the status of project efforts and are held accountable for controlling project plans and costs and providing management feedback.
  • Directly supervises & mentor their project team members, and are actively responsible for conducting the P&LP process for their direct reports.
  • They must be able to delegate responsibility to others, and to set the priorities for the group's work.
  • DBA Manager IIs must resolve conflict, while fostering a good team environment, in order to fulfill the department's operating objectives
  • Responsible for a global team of production DBAs with members located in the United States, Netherlands, France and Mexico as well as a managed services contract that handles operational tickets.
  • Responsible for overseeing our on-prem Microsoft SQL, Cognos and Qlikview environments as well as their associated licensing and support contracts.
  • Responsible for driving the team's Cloud-Only strategy including the migration of on-prem databases while also supporting Cloud native database technologies.
  • Responsible for supporting annual SOX audits and will be responsible for remediating any found deficiencies.


  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related subject area, or equivalent work experience and technical training.
  • Greater than 5 years of IT experience in infrastructure operations and/or solutions deployment
  • Good project management skills, including defining, organizing, planning, and completing projects from vision through implementation.
  • A thorough understanding of IT concepts, terminology and practical application of current and new technologies.
  • Extensive analytical abilities and technical skills to evaluate alternative approaches and to recommend the most feasible and economical solutions.
  • Knowledge in extensive range of architectures and systems technologies
  • Demonstrable ability to design solutions using the appropriate systems architecture, and communication and network technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively participate in teams.
  • Must be comfortable working remotely and lack of face to face with their teams, colleagues and managers.
  • Good interpersonal and human resource management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in audience appropriate terms.
  • Experience in personnel supervision is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL
  • Exposure to Cloud Native database technologies, such as Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL and SQL Server), Amazon Aurora, Cosmos DB, and MongoDB
