Our North/Central Minnesota Region is looking to hire a Client Service Director for our Business Operations (BizOps) Private Industries group. This is fulltime/permanent career opportunity, which could operate within the vicinity of any of our North/Central Minnesota offices: St. Cloud, Monticello, Alexandria or Brainerd, MN. This leader will anchor the private industries group in providing CFO services to existing business, as well as, being the face of CLA's private industries practice in the community, driving business development and building an infrastructure of talent to support that growth. The Client Service Director performs CFO functions as part of the client's outsourced accounting services team, which may include Controller level services at times.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works with clients to set financial policy and is an active participant in, and driver of, the overall strategy.
  • Leads financial administration, planning, and budgeting.
  • Frequently partners with client's leadership on operational and strategic issues as they arise, providing recommendations based on financial analysis of projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Oversees longer-term budget planning and cost management. Monitors progress of budgets and presents operational metrics and KPI's
  • Ensures staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with appropriate principles and monitors the use of funds.
  • Accountable for identifying and implementing best practices related to the service(s) provided to add value to the client.
  • Develops full knowledge of GAAP and deep understanding of financial and operational aspects of a specific industry.
    Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple client engagements. Builds strong client relationships and becomes a key member of client management team.
  • Maintains knowledge of client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.



Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Ability to develop key external business network and becomes service and industry thought leader
  • Manage internal and external referrals through CRM
  • Interaction and coordination with internal client relationship leaders in the firm
  • Proposal writing and presentations.
  • Mastery in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, proficient in Outlook and Word. Various accounting software's will be used in client service depending on client size and industry.
  • This position requires frequent local travel to/from client sites and may require occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes



Organizational Interfaces:

This position reports directly to the Outsourcing Principal in charge of the client, as well as regular interactions with Managing Principals, industry Principals, service Principals, and other functional groups within CLA and at the client site. In addition, this role supervises accounting services staff which may include CLA accounting services staff, client accounting services staff, or both.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years' relative work experience as a CFO, Controller, Accounting Manager, or equivalent work.
  • Business development experience is highly preferred!
  • Experience working with private industry clients/customers.
  • Experience working with small- to mid- size businesses (around the $10-50M revenue), preferably within a public accounting role.
  • BA/BS degree in accounting or related field required.
  • CPA highly preferred.
