“Company X,” a simulation software startup in the electromagnetics industry (EM), is looking for a CEO to lead its innovative team and platform development. Our mission is to make EM Model-Based Engineering a reality. We are an early stage startup with lofty goals and big plans for 2022 and beyond. The right candidate can look forward to being both a leader of the company and one of the owners.

“Company X” is a spinoff from IERUS Technologies, a growing and well-respected defense contractor, focused on engineering, research, and development. IERUS experts in Electromagnetics Phenomenology, Analytical Computing, and Weapon System Engineering have provided quality, novel solutions over the past decade. As a spinoff of IERUS Technologies, “Company X” will be focused on the commercialization of software tools developed at IERUS for both internal use and customer use.


This role is ideal for someone who has the right mix of leadership, passion, energy, and experience to build a business in the EM simulation sector. The ideal candidate is business savvy, has an entrepreneurial spirit and innovative nature, technical knowledge in EM, and relationships with Aerospace and Defense customers.

The CEO will have primary responsibility for leading and building company operations, the overall growth strategy, organizational leadership, financial and organizational management, raising capital, external communications, and marketing and sales efforts. They will also be responsible for the development and management of advisor and investor relationships.

The CEO will also be responsible for providing the short term and long-term company vision as well as the development of the sales and marketing strategy, with the initial need being part-time working into a full-time position. They will also be responsible for achieving capitalization and revenue objectives.

The ideal candidate will have been successful in startup companies (or will have learned from previous failures) focused on the needs of engineers in the Aerospace & Defense industry. In addition to being the face, voice, and spirit of the company, the candidate must demonstrate a track record in EM technology or engineering software.

 Focus During the First 12 Months:

  • Review and update existing business plan
  • Create an appropriate user acquisition strategy
  • Develop and lead execution of product development and marketing goals
  • Secure funding as necessary to meet business plan
  • Establish strategic partnerships with other companies to reach the ambitious user growth targets
  • Position company for aggressive future growth

 Responsibilities and Duties


  • Provide vision and leadership that attracts followers
  • Public relations, including evangelizing technology
  • Motivate a high performance, innovative, and results-driven organization

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop short/long term company and product roadmap
  • Establish and implement short and long term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with other companies in order to reach the ambitious user growth targets
  • Build and motivate product, marketing, and customer service teams
  • Responsible for all elements of HR, recruiting, employee compensation plans, and benefits.
  • Develop a financial plan for the organization

Operational Management

  • Oversee operating plan, budget, cash flow, and company finances.
  • Build and lead an effective and cohesive executive management team, while establishing a basic personnel policy, initiating and monitoring policies relating to personnel actions and training and professional development programs.
  • Ensure company objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by management and employees.
  • Ensure company and its businesses comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and, where appropriate, best practices.
  • Establish, achieve, and report on financials and milestones to investors.

 Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering. MBA highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in leadership efforts in a startup company, preferably with a background in engineering software
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, management, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work strategically, but also hands-on problem solving
  • Familiarity with agile methodology for product development
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills in English
  • Experience in capital raising and investor relationships
  • Track record of building innovative, creative, and collaborative teams
  • Strong desire to lead from a strategic and tactical perspective in all aspects of day to day company operations

 Location & Travel

  • 100% remote / CONUS
  • Preferred home locations include Washington, D.C.; San Francisco, CA; San Jose, CA; San Diego, CA; Austin, TX; Rayleigh/Durham, NC; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; or Atlanta, GA.
  • Travel 25-35%
