Job Summary

The Operations Specialist will conduct air and compliance oversight during asbestos and lead remediation projects. Other duties may include hazardous building materials inspections.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Executes sampling to assess employees’ exposure to health risks and to measure the effectiveness of work practices and engineering controls.

  • Performs compliance oversight to ensure work is being performed in adherence to the project specification and Federal/State regulations.

  • Communicate recommended changes in work practices with the competent person/contractor based on sampling data.

  • Maintains current knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.

  • Analyzes data and documents observations.

  • Performs project tasks.

  • Completes daily field activity logs, air sample analysis, maintains detailed field notes, and completes final air monitoring project report in the appropriate timeframe.

  • Calibrates and maintains equipment.

  • Adheres to all BDN Standard Operating Procedures, Employee Handbook, and Quality Assurance and Control Programs.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Attention to detail.

  • Efficiently manages time to ensure tasks are completed in the time provided.

  • Practical written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

  • Ability to pass a medical examination and be medically qualified to wear respiratory protection devices.

  • Ability to build rapport, communicate effectively both internally and externally with the client and regulatory agencies.

  • Project a positive attitude.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving history.

  • Ability to pass drug screening

Education and experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.

  • Report writing experience is required.

  • The ability to pass the fiber counting required of our industry, NIOSH 582. This will include participation in our Quality Control program for air testing/fiber counting.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and EPA asbestos and lead regulations is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to stand, walk, climb, etc., in order to thoroughly inspect projects.

  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be capable and willing to wear appropriate personal protective equipment to maintain a safe work environment.

Work Environment

  • Depending on the day and project, it may vary from outdoor work to inside.

  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of weather conditions.

  • Frequent construction sites and existing buildings undergoing renovations.

  • Exposed to potential hazards from construction sites and equipment and potentially hazardous materials while collecting test samples.

  • Ability to work varied hours depending on project schedules.

  • Travels to multiple project sites.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Report writing experience
