We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic problem-solver to join our Operations team. We sit at the heart of Jane Street’s trading, ensuring that assets, information, and ideas flow smoothly and efficiently both within the firm and between us and the outside world.
As our trading grows in scale and complexity, we have to continually rethink and improve the way we work. That’s where this role comes in.
To start, you'll be embedded within one of our Operations teams, learning the day-to-day work alongside your colleagues—running the processes, understanding the products, building real context for how things get done and why.
Over time, your focus will shift toward making that work better. That might mean redesigning how a reconciliation is done, removing handoffs between teams, imagining how tools and systems could work better, or applying AI where it helps. You'll look for the changes that would make the biggest difference, help build them, and see them through to adoption.
As you build context and a track record, you'll be pulled into problems in other Operations teams as well, and the balance will tip toward the process-improvement side of the work. The best people in this role end up with a view of Operations that few others have.
We expect this role to evolve over time, and we're looking for someone who's energized by that and embraces it.
About You- Have a bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in operations, engineering, analytics, consulting, or a related field
- Notice inefficiencies and gaps in teams, tools, and processes, and take the initiative to improve them
- Pragmatic about problem-solving and think carefully about which solution best fits your problem (e.g., spreadsheets, scripts, AI)
- Comfortable digging into complex ideas and making them clear for others
- Self-starter and able to set your own direction in ambiguous situations
- Humble about what you know and don’t know, and not afraid to ask questions
- Technical skills are a plus but not a requirement—we care more about how you think than what you can build
You don't need to match every line but if most of this resonates, we'd love to hear from you.

What We Do
Jane Street works differently. As a liquidity provider and market maker, we trade on more than 200 trading venues across 45 countries and help form the backbone of global markets. Our approach is rooted in technology and rigorous quantitative analysis, but our success is driven by our people. Our bright, beautiful offices in the heart of New York, London, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam are open and buzzing with conversation. We come from many backgrounds and encourage travel between offices to share perspectives. Some of our best ideas come from bumping into a visiting colleague at the office coffee bar. Markets move fast. Staying competitive as we’ve grown has required constant invention—of new trading strategies, technology, and processes. We’ve found this is easier when you hire humble, kind people. They tend to help each other, and prioritize teamwork over titles. We invest heavily in teaching and training. There’s a library and a classroom in every office, because deepening your understanding of something is considered real work. Guest lectures, classes, and conferences round out the intellectual exchanges that happen every day. People grow into long careers at Jane Street because there are always new and interesting problems to solve, systems to build, and theories to test. More than twenty years after our founding, it still feels like we’re just getting started.
