The Operations Manager oversees daily operations within an assigned department. This role ensures efficient coordination of equipment, drivers, and freight to meet customer service expectations, maximize equipment utilization, and drive overall operational profitability.

Essential Job Functions

• Coordinate and manage freight movements to optimize delivery efficiency and company profitability

• Manage assigned drivers to meet customer requirements and operational objectives within a geographic area

• Monitor and maximize driver and equipment utilization to improve operational margins

• Analyze operational data and performance reports to identify opportunities for improvement

• Support the implementation of initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and strategic growth

• Evaluate and assist in pricing freight rates and bids for new and existing customers

• Partner with leadership on budget planning and financial reviews

• Collaborate with departments including safety, maintenance, recruiting, billing, settlement, and human resources to ensure operational success and compliance • Track and assess fleet operations using KPIs and reporting tools

• Participate in meetings with senior leadership to discuss performance, initiatives, and challenges

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position provides day-to-day leadership for direct reports. Team size and reporting relationships may change as business needs evolve. • Managers are responsible for leading, developing, and supporting their direct reports. This includes setting clear expectations, providing consistent feedback, and ensuring employees understand their role in meeting business needs. You coach employees to build capability, address performance concerns promptly, and document conversations when expectations are not met. • You hold regular one-on-one check-ins to stay aligned on workload, priorities, and development needs. You guide employees through performance reviews, goal setting, and ongoing progress updates throughout the year. You reinforce company values through your day-to-day decisions and how you communicate with your team. • You ensure your employees follow all policies, safety requirements, and operational standards. You maintain a fair and respectful work environment, take concerns seriously, and escalate issues when needed. You build trust by being accessible, following through, and supporting employees through change.


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 7+ years of experience in the trucking industry

• 5+ years of management experience in transportation operations

Preferred Education and Experience

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding of driver management, hours of service regulations, DOT compliance, freight lanes, and pricing strategies

• Ability to build and manage customer relationships and support employee development

• Proficiency in Windows-based software and operational reporting systems

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in the trucking industry
  • 5+ years of management experience in transportation operations
  • Strong understanding of driver management, DOT compliance, and pricing strategies
  • Proficiency in Windows-based software and operational reporting systems
