THE ROLE


The Inbound Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the inbound logistics, receiving, and inventory management functions in a high-volume e-commerce fulfillment center. This role ensures the smooth and efficient flow of products from suppliers to the warehouse, maintaining optimal inventory levels and accurate stock records. The manager will lead a team, collaborate across departments, and leverage technology to meet operational goals while optimizing processes to enhance productivity and cost efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the entire inbound operation, including receiving, unloading, sorting, and storing products efficiently.
  • Ensure that products are received according to schedules, inspections are performed to check for damages or discrepancies, and inventory is recorded accurately in the warehouse management system (WMS).
  • Ensure the correct labeling and organization of products for easy retrieval during the picking and packing process.
  • Lead and supervise a team of inbound associates, including training, performance management, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational standards.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Create and maintain shift schedules, ensuring appropriate coverage and optimizing workforce efficiency.
  • Oversee the accurate tracking of inbound inventory, ensuring it is stored in proper locations.
  • Work closely with the inventory management team to reconcile any discrepancies between physical inventory and system counts.
  • Implement best practices for inventory accuracy, shelf organization, and FIFO (First In, First Out) management.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve inbound workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and increase throughput.
  • Use data analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor inbound operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (such as procurement, outbound, and IT) to streamline processes and resolve any operational issues.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and carriers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding delivery schedules, shipments, and order discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with transportation and logistics teams to ensure smooth deliveries and minimize delays.
  • Ensure all inbound processes adhere to health and safety regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Enforce proper handling procedures for hazardous materials (if applicable) and ensure compliance with environmental guidelines.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and address any hazards or potential risks in the warehouse.
  • Generate and analyze reports on inbound performance, inventory levels, and other KPIs to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Provide recommendations and updates to senior management regarding inbound performance and operational challenges.
  • Monitor the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of inbound transportation routes and systems.
  • Leverage warehouse management systems (WMS) and other technologies to optimize inbound workflows and inventory accuracy.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in e-commerce fulfillment to drive efficiency in inbound operations.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Logistics, or a related field. Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse or logistics management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Previous experience in e-commerce fulfillment or distribution centers is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory control systems, and other warehouse software tools.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and improving operational processes.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Google Suite.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry products weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with potential exposure to noise, temperature fluctuations, and moving equipment.
