The Operations Accountant will support company operations, participate in month-end closing processes, and reconcile accounts. This position will need to apply the principles of cost accounting in order to provide detailed cost information to management as well as be expected to record revenue transactions (invoicing). In addition, this position will administer payroll functions via a third-party service.

Job Responsibilities:

Cost Accounting:

  • Review and post sales orders for invoicing, following the company’s contractual revenue recognition policies
  • Manage accounts receivable, to include ongoing collection efforts, cash application, and reconciling accounts monthly
  • Monitor and prepare weekly and monthly inventory variance analysis reports with explanations and analysis
  • Reconcile labor hours for work orders with timecards, accrue time for open batch tickets, and prepare weekly labor utilization report
  • Maintain and produce monthly inventory details including obsolete inventory calculations, inventory in-transit, and assist with reports and support for physical inventory events
  • Coordinate with Production Management regarding batch tickets and post related inventory transactions to general ledger
  • Update monthly variance capitalization schedule and prepare journal entries
  • Recommend and maintain strong internal financial controls
  • Maintain a record of cylinders shipped and returned from customers including managing revenue recognition policy for cylinder demurrage
  • Document processes, recommend and implement process improvements
  • Perform special projects and assignments as needed

Payroll:

  • Process full-cycle biweekly companywide payroll for over 200 employees using Paycom
  • Interface with all departments across all levels to ensure payroll accuracy and process in a timely manner including review of timesheets for completeness
  • Compile and maintain payroll data such as garnishments, PTO, Holiday Bank, medical benefits, and 401(k) deductions
  • Handle all payroll information with strict integrity and confidentiality, safeguarding sensitive employee data
  • Prepare and book journal entries for payroll related transactions
  • Reconcile payroll related trial balance accounts monthly
  • Prepare and distribute regular payroll reports
  • Provide assistance with year-end audits of financial statements, 401(k) Plan, and workers’ compensation
  • Review and distribute W-2s

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 5 to 7 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

  • Proficient using MS Office products
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel required; advanced skills desirable
  • Customer service oriented
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Chempax/Datacor systems experience preferred )
  • Experience using 3rd party payroll software such as Paycom advantageous

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be using a computer with screens, and a keyboard and mouse, for extended periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee will be occasionally visiting manufacturing areas, prep areas, and storage facilities that require the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
