East Houston Medical Center is expanding with a brand-new, state-of-the-art Baytown campus, designed from the ground up for modern, patient-centered surgical care. We are seeking an exceptional Operating Room Manager to help build, lead, and inspire a perioperative team that will set the standard for surgical excellence in the Bay Area–Houston region.

About the Role

The OR Manager will be the strategic and operational leader for our perioperative services at the Baytown campus, overseeing day-to-day operations of the operating rooms and procedural areas while shaping culture, quality, and service from day one. This leader will partner closely with surgeons, anesthesia, sterile processing, and ancillary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and highly reliable care for every patient, every time.

You will have the rare opportunity to help design workflows, influence staffing models, and implement best practices as we open a new facility in a fast-growing, diverse community of more than 80,000 residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the OR nursing team, including RNs, surgical techs, and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, respect, and professional growth.
  • Plan, organize, and direct daily OR operations, including room turnover, case flow, on-time starts, and throughput across all surgical specialties served at the Baytown campus.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and hospital leadership to align scheduling, staffing, and resource utilization with surgical volume and patient acuity.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, infection prevention, safety, and quality standards, and lead initiatives that improve clinical outcomes and patient experience.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the OR operating budget, including labor, supplies, implants, and capital needs, while maintaining high standards of care.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, call rotations, timekeeping, and productivity, ensuring appropriate skill mix and coverage for all shifts.
  • Maintain clinical competency and provide visible, hands-on leadership in the OR, including stepping in to support care delivery when needed.
  • Drive performance improvement through data, metrics, and evidence-based practices, using dashboards and reports to guide decision-making.
  • Champion a patient- and family-centered approach to care that reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of the Baytown community.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required, Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of recent acute care OR experience with progressive leadership responsibilities (charge nurse, supervisor, coordinator, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated expertise in perioperative nursing, including knowledge of AORN standards, surgical safety checklists, and infection prevention best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead teams through change, build engagement, and coach for performance in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with physicians, staff, and executive leadership.
  • BLS and ACLS (or obtained within organization-defined timeframe); specialty certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) strongly preferred.
