Carusone Construction is seeking a skilled Operating Engineer to join our team for heavy highway and infrastructure projects. The Operating Engineer will be responsible for operating and maintaining wide variety of heavy construction equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent safety record, and experience working on large-scale civil and highway projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate heavy construction equipment such as bulldozers, motor graders, backhoes, loaders, rollers, excavators, and other related machinery for roadway and infrastructure projects.
• Excavate, move, and grade earth; clear and prepare land for construction; load and unload materials; and assist in erecting structures and pouring concrete or asphalt.
• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, and troubleshooting operating errors.
• Work closely with project managers, foremen, and other crew members to ensure efficient and safe workflow.
• Follow all safety regulations and company policies to prevent accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.
• Respond calmly and effectively to changing site conditions and project demands.
• Complete required documentation and equipment logs as directed.
• May be required to calculate loads and use equipment load charts for safe operation.
• Assist with traffic control, site preparation, and other general labor as needed.
Required Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment, preferably on highway or civil infrastructure projects.
• Active membership in or eligibility to join Local 52 Operating Engineers Union.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in physically demanding environments.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
