Summary:

HHMI is committed to advancing scientific discoveries by modernizing how research is shared and recognized. The Program Coordinator will help refine and implement strategies for HHMI’s open science initiatives, including the Open Access to Publications policy, promotion of preprints and preprint review, and emerging projects to improve research communication.

This role will work with HHMI scientists, staff, and external partners to implement services and programs that improve the sharing of HHMI research. Analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills will be essential in collaborating with various partners.

This position reports to the Director, Open Science Strategy. In this newly created position, we prefer you work in a hybrid model at our headquarters campus in Chevy Chase, MD, but remote arrangements will be considered.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the implementation of HHMI’s Open Access to Publications policy to deliver guidelines and communications about the policy for HHMI scientists and publishers. 

  • Continuously improve systems used to track and analyze HHMI publication data in collaboration with external partners. 

  • Manage projects for the development of components of a newly developed research communication initiative.

  • Support projects that promote preprints, preprint review, and other open science practices within the HHMI community.

  • Assist HHMI scientists in using digital tools and services provided as part of the research communication initiative.

  • Gather information regarding HHMI scientists, outputs, projects, and lab groups for use on HHMI websites.

  • Aid HHMI scientists in proper data management and stewardship, ensuring the use of appropriate standards and necessary metadata.

What you bring:

  • PhD or equivalent or a combination of education and related experience. 

  • Research lab experience (+2 years) required.

  • Experience practicing and advocating for open science preferred.

  • Project/Program Management experience preferred. 

  • Interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and build credibility with project teams and the scientific community.

  • Strong communication and active listening skills; ability to manage inquiries from various audiences and provide guidance in writing and verbally. 

  • Must be skilled in working collaboratively and effectively with employees at all levels of the organization with the ability to influence others. 

  • Problem-solving skills, prioritizing and effectively progressing many competing priorities or ideas. 

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity in helping to design new projects.

Compensation Range

$74,413.60 (minimum) - $93,017.00 (midpoint) - $120,922.10 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
