Position Summary: The Nurse Manager is responsible for assisting in the oversight of the daily operations and administration of PRTF nursing services with Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch. This role involves assisting nursing staff in management, coordinating patient care, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. The Nurse Manager works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide  evidenced based comprehensive integrated mental health care to youth.

Starting Salary Range:  $2,943 - $3,313 per biweekly pay period.  Salary reflects steps 1-5 of an 11-step pay schedule. The starting salary will be determined based on the applicant’s education and relevant experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists in providing leadership and supervision to clinic staff as outlined in the supervisor duties below.

  1. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  2. Assists in planning and directing work, ensuring that work schedules are adhered to and assigning specific duties to subordinate staff. 
  3. Assists in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training employees. Conducts staff evaluations, job performance management (including coaching/counseling), and corrective action.
  4. Responsible for ensuring appropriate staff training and education programs are provided. Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings.
  5. Demonstrates effective management of a team toward achievement of goals, including appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities: 

  1. Assure high quality patient care is provided to youth of Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch. 
  2. Assure nursing policies and procedures are aligned with established best practices in behavioral health care. 
  3. Utilize processes to continually improve clinic operations, achieve desired clinical outcomes. 
  4. Assure compliance with all state, federal, and licensing regulations as they apply to nursing services.
  5. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, provide leadership and supervision to nursing and administrative staff members assigned to the clinic. 
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Age: 21 years or older
  • Background Check: Must pass criminal and child abuse background checks as required by the State of Montana
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or community healthcare setting.
    • At least 1 year of experience in mental health
  • Current licensure as RN in the state of Montana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)

**Current licensure as RN in another  state will be considered with the requirement of obtaining Montana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) license within 90 days of hire. 

Required Abilities/Skills

  • Medication administration: Proficient in administering psychotropic and routine medications; understanding of side effects and interactions.
  • Health assessments: Ability to conduct physical and mental health assessments and monitor vital signs.
  • Crisis intervention: Skilled in recognizing signs of psychiatric crisis and providing immediate response and de-escalation.
  • Medical documentation: Accurate and timely charting in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Demonstrate being self-motivated, self-disciplined, and diligent with forward thinking.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think of their team over self and define success collectively rather than individually.
  • The ability to effectively interact and communicate with others. These skills are essential for building and maintaining relationships, collaborating with colleagues, resolving conflicts, and navigating various social situations.

Physical/Environmental Demands & Requirements:

  1. Work environment: This position will generally work indoors in a climate-controlled environment but occasionally will work in an outdoor environment where they may not be protected from weather conditions.
  2. Will occasionally be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period while performing administrative duties.
  3. Will frequently operate computer, keyboard, and other office equipment.
  4. Consistently needs to move about inside building, outside to include uneven terrain, changes in elevation, and frequently change body position from and to standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone.
  5. Occasionally will be required to assist in the physical restraint of a youth (50-300lbs) who is a safety risk to themselves or others.
  6. The person in this position will constantly communicate with clients, their treatment team, and others.  Must be able to communicate accurate information and accurately understand information communicated by those individuals.
  7. Must be able to perceive, recognize, and observe client’s behavior to include non-verbal cues expressed by the client.
  8. Conditions can be high stress during de-escalation or restraint of physically out of control youth.

Skills Required

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must pass criminal and child abuse background checks required by the State of Montana
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or community healthcare setting
  • At least 1 year of mental health experience
  • Current RN licensure in Montana or through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
  • Applicants licensed in another state must obtain Montana or NLC licensure within 90 days of hire
  • Willingness and ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification
  • Willingness and ability to obtain Violence Intervention Prevention certification
