The Daily Beast is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Night News Editor to join our team on a part-time basis. The Daily Beast is a leading digital news site known for its fearless and incisive reporting. We cover breaking news, politics, pop culture, and more with a distinctive voice that engages a dedicated audience.
About the Role
The Daily Beast is seeking a Night News Editor to help our dynamic newsroom. The ideal candidate will have experience in journalism, a sharp editorial eye, and the ability to drive compelling and impactful news coverage across two key shifts—Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday, the shift would run from 4pm—12am ET; on Saturday, the shift would run from 5pm—1am ET.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee news coverage across these shifts, ensuring timely, accurate and engaging reporting.
- Assign and edit stories, providing guidance to reporters to produce high-quality content. Must also be comfortable with writing breaking news.
- Monitor news trends and stay ahead of the competition.
- Curate The Daily Beast’s homepage and update social feeds with fresh content.
- Maintain high journalistic standards and uphold The Daily Beast's editorial voice.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in journalism, with at least 2 years in an editing role.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Strong news judgment and the ability to make quick editorial decisions.
- Deep understanding of digital media and audience engagement strategies.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a small team.

Pay Range Salary
The pay range for this position is $650 - $750 per weekend.
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, performance and other factors. The range listed is just one component of the Daily Beast’s total compensation package. The Daily Beast provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, 401K employer matching program, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
