Network Provisioning Engineer I

Our Network Provisioning Engineer I is the focal point for all internal and external orders required to maintain the network. This position requires the ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to details.

Scope:

  • Applies company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues
  • Works on problems of limited scope
  • Receives detailed instructions

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in implementation of various software services
  • Assist team in reviewing ticket requirements, reserving router interface, assigning patch panel demarcation, designing path, track FOC and DLR, requesting patching between equipment, and ordering cross-connects
  • Help track milestones and proactively drive any activities that may jeopardize orders from completing on time
  • Provide thorough and timely status throughout the entire implementation life cycle in the tracking system; including communicating vendor provisioning/install lead times
  • Document service requests, escalate as needed, and provide timely and accurate updates
  • Aid in design, provision, and test of delivered services to ensure quality hand-off to internal customers
  • Expedite and escalate issues when necessary to ensure timely delivery of services
  • Help prioritize projects, manage and direct activities to deliver connectivity within project schedule
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal customers, stakeholders and network carriers
  • Assist with metrics development and operational reporting/reviews
  • Support planned systems maintenance activity while minimizing impact to services
  • Read and comprehend vendor specific requirements

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S/B.A) from four-college or university and 0 to 2 years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Builds stable working relationships internally
  • Follows standard practice and procedures when analyzing situations or data
  • Knowledge of cable throughput and transit distances
  • Understanding of telecommunications industry in a switched network provisioning environment
  • Understand basic telecommunications practices, terminologies, and interfaces
  • Familiarity with DS1, DS3, and DS0's circuits
  • Knowledge of Access Server Request (ASR) to local carriers
  • Understanding of provisioning network bandwidth for IP transit, fiber, voice and wavelength services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Networking Knowledge: Strong understanding of networking principles, protocols, and technologies such as TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), switching technologies, etc.
  • Experience with Network Equipment: Hands-on experience with network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, etc. Experience with different vendors (Cisco, Juniper, etc.) is a plus.
  • Deployment Experience: Demonstrated experience in deploying network equipment, managing equipment installs, configuring devices, and ensuring proper functionality.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to troubleshoot network issues efficiently, diagnose problems, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
  • Project Management Skills: Capability to manage projects related to network provisioning, including planning, scheduling, resource management, and documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with team members, clients, and vendors effectively.

Certifications: While not always mandatory, certifications can be beneficial to demonstrate expertise. Some relevant certifications include:

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP)
  • CompTIA Network+ Project Management Professional (PMP)

Physical Demand & Work Environment:

  • Must have the ability to perform office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing
  • Must have the ability to move from place to place within an office environment
  • Must be able to use a computer
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively
  • Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers

Salary Range

$39,051.08 - $61,659.60 USD (Salary)

  • Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit.

Where an applicant or employee is placed on this range will depend and be contingent on objective, documented work-related considerations like education, experience, certifications, licenses, preferred qualifications, among other factors.
