The Role
We are looking for a proactive, curious and eager-to-learn Junior Network Operations Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is passionate about developing their skills in network operations. You should have a natural drive to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and dig deep until you understand the full picture. In this role, you will support the seamless operation of Cubic Telecom's global connectivity platform, helping to deliver critical services for IoT devices, automotive solutions, and mobile networks.
You will work closely with senior engineers, gaining hands-on experience with troubleshooting and network operations across SS7, Diameter, S6a signalling, VoLTE, SMS, and CS voice systems. Your key responsibility will be to assist with monitoring and resolving network issues, learning how to analyse and troubleshoot network attach problems, data session setup issues, and roaming performance inconsistencies.
This role will require you to work a rotating 24/7 schedule and be part of an on-call support system, ensuring that Cubic’s services are operational and performing at high standards around the clock.
Responsibilities

- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of network issues, particularly related to SS7, Diameter, S6a signalling, VoLTE, SMS, CS voice, and network attach/data session problems during roaming.
- Collaborate with internal teams, MNO partners, and vendors to escalate complex issues, provide logs, traces, and collaborate on fixes for signalling or session-related problems.
- Monitor and respond to network alarms and issues during your shift, following standard operating procedures to initiate troubleshooting or escalation.
- Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical issues, ensuring fast response and minimal service impact.
- Document resolutions and technical knowledge gained during troubleshooting activities, contributing to a growing knowledge base for the wider team.
Requirements
- Foundational knowledge of telecommunications networks (e.g., SS7, Diameter, VoLTE, LTE, 3G, 4G, IMS) is essential, with a strong desire to develop deeper expertise in these areas.
- Experience or familiarity with basic troubleshooting of network issues such as attach failures, data session setups, and performance inconsistencies is a plus.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, or other packet analysis tools.
- Strong interest in learning and developing troubleshooting skills for signalling protocols, network performance, and roaming issues.
- Ability to work in a rotating 24/7 shift environment and participate in on-call rotations as part of a global team.
- Ability to work unsupervised, effectively prioritise tasks, and take ownership of task completion and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and MNOs.
- A collaborative attitude with a willingness to ask questions, learn from more experienced colleagues, and contribute to team discussions.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to follow guidance and develop independent troubleshooting abilities over time.
- Organisational skills to document work clearly, maintain records, and contribute to a growing knowledge base.
- A curious nature, demonstrating a passion for understanding how systems work, finding long-term solutions to recurring problems and the determination to keep investigating until the underlying issue is uncovered.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
- A degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred, but not essential.
- Some exposure to network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Zabbix, SolarWinds, or similar) is a plus.
- Prior experience in a technical support, network operations, or telecommunications environment is beneficial.
