Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Operations Engineer (IP/MPLS) / IP MOP Engineer to join our network operations team. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth technical expertise in Layer 2 and Layer 3 network technologies, with a strong focus on IP routing principles and various Ethernet and MPLS services. This role requires hands-on command-line interface (CLI) configuration and operational knowledge of a diverse range of network devices from leading vendors. Familiarity with specific network operations tools used within large telecommunications environments is also essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for various IP and MPLS network changes, upgrades, and troubleshooting activities.
- Perform hands-on CLI configuration and operational tasks on a variety of network devices, ensuring adherence to established MOPs and network standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues related to Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, including switching, routing, and transport protocols.
- Work extensively with and provide support for various service types and architectures, including DIA, IES, ELINE, EPIPES, VPLS, and Metro Ethernet.
- Utilize network operations tools and systems for monitoring, provisioning, and managing network services.
- Collaborate with other engineering and operations teams to ensure seamless network performance and service delivery.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide escalated support as needed (if applicable).
Technical Expertise & Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 network technologies, including switching, routing, and transport protocols.
- Strong understanding of Ethernet services, MPLS, and IP routing principles.
- Extensive experience with the following service types and architectures:
- DIA (Dedicated Internet Access)
- IES (Internet Enhanced Services)
- ELINE (Ethernet Line)
- EPIPES (Ethernet Pseudowire Pipes)
- VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service)
- Metro Ethernet (Metro E)
- Adva: FSP 150 and other Adva optical devices
- Cisco: ASR920, ASR9010, 7609, MES3400
- Juniper: MX480, MX960
- Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent: 7750 SR series, OS6850
- Overture 6000
- ASRI/AMDOCS
- PRO/GRANITE
- TIRKS/LIMS
- 3SCAPE
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS, JNCIP, Nokia SRC) are highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with creating and following detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs).
