Position Details  

Salary Range: $70,000-$90,000 a year. This is a full-time exempt position.  

The development work will be performed at the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) in Rome, NY.  

Due to the clearance required for this position, only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply; as outlined in Executive Order 12968: Access to Classified Information, eligibility for access to classified information may only be granted to employees who are United States citizens.  

 

Responsibilities and Duties   

The candidate’s responsibilities and duties will include:  

  • Collaborate with a team to conduct Whitebox adversarial testing on systems 
  • Assess systems against NIST 800-53 RMF security controls 
  • Identify vulnerabilities, threat vectors, and potential exploits 
  • Develop and engineer attack methodologies 
  • Apply industry-specific knowledge to solve technical problems 
  • Analyze systems and networks to enhance security, reliability, and availability 
  • Apply expertise in routing, switching, network design, and architecture 
  • Possess a deep understanding of application transport and network protocols 
  • Monitor network performance and integrity 
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness 
  • Mentor team members on technical issues 
  • Communicate with users when necessary 
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation 

 

Education and Certifications:   

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 3 years of professional experience is preferred. A degree in computer programming, software engineering, or a closely related technical field is required for many of our projects. We will consider candidates with associate degrees or certificates in the areas listed above in combination with experience.  

 

Required Qualifications:   

  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing complex DoD network systems 
  • Proven ability to provide engineering support in a professional setting 
  • Proficiency with Cisco network switches, routers, and firewalls 
  • Experience with VMware ESXi and maintaining a virtualized environment 
  • Skill in using Wireshark and tcpdump for troubleshooting application and network performance issues, packet capture, and analysis 
  • Understanding of communication protocols, especially TCP/IP and routing protocols like BGP or OSPF 
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure 
  • Ability to mentor and guide team members 
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills 
  • Capable of working independently 
  • Security Clearance: Possess a Secret clearance 
  • Must hold a CompTIA Security+ certification or IAT level II equivalent certification 
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience working in classified spaces to implement network solutions 
  • Knowledge of optimizing system operations and resource utilization 
  • Top Secret security clearance 
  • CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA)  
  • CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP) 

 

Clearance:   

Applicants must possess and maintain a secret clearance, at minimum. 

 

Travel:   

This position is not expected to require travel.
