Summary Generated by Built In
As a Network Engineer (Corporate IT) at Impulse, you are responsible for implementing, operating, troubleshooting, and continuously improving network infrastructure across enterprise, inter-site, manufacturing, lab/test, mission-critical, data center, and cloud-adjacent environments.
This is an execution-focused engineering role working within company reference architectures and standards defined in partnership with Network Architecture and Security leadership. The engineer is expected to independently handle routine-to-complex network changes and troubleshooting, contribute to design decisions, and partner with senior engineers or architects on larger initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where uptime, performance, segmentation, and security are important and is comfortable supporting event-driven, operationally critical activities.
While the environment is Cisco-leaning, strong experience with other enterprise networking platforms is valued, and candidates are not required to have exclusively Cisco backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure, including Layer 2/3 switching, routing, wireless, WAN, and high-availability solutions, in alignment with established network architectures and standards
- Configure and optimize routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, site-to-site and site-to-cloud connectivity, VPNs, and SD-WAN to ensure scalable, resilient, and reliable communications
- Configure and maintain network segmentation using VLANs, VRFs, ACLs, firewalls, NAC/802.1X, and zero-trust-aligned access controls to protect corporate, manufacturing, laboratory, restricted, and guest environments
- Monitor network health, availability, capacity, and performance; troubleshoot issues across Layers 1–7; and implement improvements to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity
- Provide network support during test campaigns, mission-critical activities, and other time-sensitive operations; participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews
- Partner with Security and Compliance teams to implement security controls, logging, monitoring, and documentation that support applicable requirements, including ITAR, NIST SP 800-171, and CMMC
- Develop and maintain network automation using tools such as Python, Ansible, and Terraform, and support monitoring and telemetry solutions to improve configuration consistency, visibility, and operational efficiency
- Execute firmware upgrades, hardware refreshes, capacity planning, and infrastructure expansions while supporting new site builds, relocations, and laboratory deployments
- Configure and optimize QoS and, where applicable, precision-timing technologies such as PTP/IEEE 1588 and 802.1AS to support latency-sensitive telemetry, control systems, and other critical workloads
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, IP address management records, configurations, and operational runbooks while collaborating with Infrastructure, Security, Facilities, IT Operations, and senior network engineering teams
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on network engineering or network administration experience in production environments
- Hands-on experience supporting multi-site, on-prem, and cloud-adjacent networks
- Experience working in change-controlled, security-sensitive, or similarly structured production environments
- Strong working knowledge of Layer 2/3 networking technologies including VLANs, trunking, STP, link aggregation, OSPF, and familiarity with BGP
- Hands-on experience implementing and supporting high-availability technologies such as HSRP/VRRP, MLAG, or stacking
- Working knowledge of network segmentation, VRFs, ACLs, and exposure to NAC or 802.1X
- Experience with enterprise wireless networks, VPNs, and WAN connectivity
- Strong troubleshooting skills across multi-site or distributed network environments
- Experience in Cisco-leaning environments, including traditional enterprise platforms and Meraki or other cloud-managed solutions. Experience with other enterprise networking platforms (for example Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Aruba, or similar) is also acceptable
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on network engineering or network administration experience in production environments
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Experience with SD-WAN, data center fabrics, or EVPN/VXLAN
- Familiarity with precision time protocols (PTP / IEEE 1588, 802.1AS) and QoS or traffic engineering
- Experience with automation frameworks, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code concepts
- Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other regulated, mission-critical environments
