The current position is for a engineer with a strong academic record, preferably a master’s degree or higher, with an emphasis on Naval Architecture or Structural Engineering for offshore structures for Renewables and Energy markets.  The engineer will work within a large, supportive team on the analysis of all types of offshore structures for in-place conditions and for marine operations, such like float-over installation projects.

 

With the support of experienced team members, the engineer will develop a strong initial grounding in the discipline and gradually develop expertise in a wide range of static & dynamic analysis, fatigue analysis, and advanced nonlinear analysis.  There will also be an expectation develop and use programming and coding skills to contribute to the section’s Digitalisation initiatives, such as Hybrid Twin and Digital Twin services. As such a proactive approach to personal development will be important.

 

It is critically important that the engineer is able to interpret data from various sources and develop the most appropriate analysis approach required for the task in hand. This may require the preparation of detailed finite element models but also frequently conceptual first-principles models to understand the phenomena being studied.  A strong ability to break down a problem into the component parts and undertaking appropriate self-checking of the results obtained is very important.

 

The engineer will develop to be client facing and will progress to actively managing their own projects. The engineer is expected to prepare accurate technical reports and will support senior engineers with tenders and proposals.  Aside from technical work, attendance at meetings and preparation and delivery of presentations will be required.

 

An enthusiastic and cooperative approach to working with other members of the team is vital. Over time the engineer will develop a strong understanding of the interplay between their area of specialism and the various engineering disciplines that contribute to an overall project

 

 

As the successful candidate:

  • You will be working in the business area Energy Systems (https://www.dnv.com/about/energy-systems/index.html) within the Region Asia Pacific. Energy Systems offers a comprehensive range of engineering and consulting services serving the full spectrum of the energy industry with a focus on supporting the Energy Transition. 
  • You will be part of the Floaters and Marine Operations advisory section, which is a diverse and multinational team based in Shanghai and Singapore, consisting of 21 experts in floating systems, naval architecture, and complex transportation and installation methods. The section renders a variety of strength and fatigue studies as well as transportation and installation services for complex systems like FPSO, FSRU, Floating Wind Turbines, Floating Solar and aqua-culture infrastructures.

 

Your main tasks will include

  • Participation in and contribution to a variety of services delivered from section including, but not limited to strength and fatigue assessment of the floating structures, stability, hydrodynamics, floatover operations, moorings and riser systems.
  • Responsibility for delivery of single work packages but also managing smaller projects independently. You will have direct communication with internal and external clients worldwide.

The position is open for graduates and/or engineers/ senior engineer. The final job title and compensation package will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The role is based in Singapore.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in naval architecture or comparable engineering disciplines with course specialisation on naval architecture, offshore structures from an accredited college or university
  • Good basic engineering skills/understanding
  • Team player with positive attitude and ability to work effectively with different teams
  • Service oriented with a proactive attitude
  • Software and tools:
    • DNV SESAM suites, GHS, AQWA, Orcaflex, experience are advantageous
    • Programming in Python is advantageous
    • Knowledge of AutoCAD is advantageous
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic team worker
  • Adaptable and reactive approach with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain high performance without compromising on quality, when under pressure 
  • Support tender and proposal preparation
  • Proactive identifier of issues or obstacles and innovative in proposing and implementing solutions
  • Show initiative in contributing to business and technical development within our team.
  • Competent communicator to both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders.

  • Motivated to work towards chartership (or other equivalent Professional Engineer status).
