Nautilus Associate Editor

Nautilus is growing, and we’re looking for an associate editor to join our team of creative editors, writers, and artists. Work remotely and be part of a small and collaborative crew who love to share inspirational ideas and bring them to life on our website, in our print magazine, and through our newsletter. Established 12 years ago in New York City, Nautilus regularly wins national awards and has stories featured in The Best American Science and Nature Writing. We explore the beauties and insights of science. We ask big questions and present authoritative answers through narratives with original voices and perspectives. We show how science informs our universe, lives, and cultures.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Conceive articles with fresh and compelling points of view
• Recruit the best writer or scientist for a particular article, and scout new writers
• Edit articles to the highest standards in journalism and science 
• Write original, engaging pieces to the print magazine, website, and newsletter
• Stay abreast of latest trends and developments in science–through daily reading in science literature and news–as well as current narrative journalism and culture

• Ensure quality and alignment with voice, mission, strategy, values, and brand

What We’re Looking For

• A keen eye for storytelling, structure, and detail 
• A passion for science in all fields and a curious mind
• More than 3 years writing and editing experience, primarily in magazine journalism
• Big ideas about the intersections of science and culture with unique POVs
• Independent thinkers who love a good laugh
