Apply to join our Insurance National Sales Desk, a fast-paced and exciting group that serves as the foundation of the sales organization. Help advisors make informed recommendations, build your soft and hard skills, and build a reputation and momentum for a future on a team with strong upward mobility for high performers. This team is best for those with strong verbal communication skills, a passion for learning, and an interest in learning how to position insurance in the modern financial planning environment.As an Insurance National Sales Associate, you will promote RiverSource insurance products with Ameriprise Financial advisors, primarily via an inbound phone queue. You will also make selective proactive outbound calls. Using discretion and judgment, through a quality sales call conversation, associates will match insurance product solutions to client's needs and goals. This is the first step into a career as a wholesaler offering the opportunity to develop product expertise, advisor relationships, and sales skills within RiverSource Insurance.
This position can be based out of either our Minneapolis or Charlotte office.
If you are not located close to a physical office, remote work is considered for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learn and become an expert in RiverSource annuity and life insurance products and strategies. Build and maintain relationships with the wholesaling team. Engage with Ameriprise advisors to understand how RiverSource insurance solutions fit into the financial planning process and support client retirement, protection, and legacy planning needs.
- Answer calls via an inbound phone queue and respond to questions regarding RiverSource products and strategies. Use effective questioning to match product solutions to clients’ retirement and legacy needs. Run illustrations and product proposals and teach advisors how to use these tools to present solutions to their clients. Follow up as needed to assist in closing business opportunities and identifying additional sales opportunities.
- Partner with wholesaling teams to identify proactive callout opportunities and determine desired outcomes. Examples include driving event attendance, notifying advisors of updated licensing requirements, supporting business development initiatives, and assisting wholesalers in growing advisor engagement.
- Pass all required licensing exams and keep current on all FINRA, state insurance training, and continuing education (CE) requirements.
Required qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Experience: 0-1 year of relevant work experience. Relevant experience may include sales, customer service, financial services, banking, insurance, or other relationship-focused roles.
- *Post-secondary education and relevant work experience may be interchanged to meet the combined total years of minimum required qualifications for education and experience.
- Active Series 6 License.
- State Securities Agent Registration (Series 63).
- Resident State Insurance Licenses (Variable, Health & Life).
- If licenses are not actively held, they must be obtained within 120 days of the start date. If multiple exams are required, they will be completed consecutively, with an additional 90-day period following the successful completion of each exam.
- Ability to build strong relationships.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Active Series 6, Series 63, and Variable, Health & Life licenses. Candidates who actively hold all required licenses are eligible for remote work upon hire
- Candidates who already hold both State Insurance license and Series 6 license may be considered for remote work upon hire.
- Knowledge of annuity and life insurance products.
- Experience in the financial services industry, financial sales, or financial wholesaling.
- Ability to work on a sales and results-driven team.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Interest in a compensation structure that includes both base salary and bonus opportunities.
- Interest in pursuing a career path within wholesaling, including future opportunities as a Regional Sales Director.
In-Office Collaboration
We are a client-centric, relationship-based business. Working together, in-person, is foundational to how we achieve results. By fostering a culture of face-to-face collaboration, idea sharing, productivity and personal connection, we deliver for our stakeholders — clients, advisors, employees and shareholders. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.

Base Pay Salary
The estimated hourly rate for this role is $23.55 / hour. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
