National Account Manager

Department: Business Development Job Status: Full-Time Reports to: Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY

We are actively seeking national account managers to join our asset based 3PL. This is a fast- paced environment, so your work ethic determines your pay. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, SKILLS, and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage book of business.
  • Handle all operations and communication with customers and carriers.
  • Professional collaboration and coordination with shippers, carriers, and dispatchers
  • Other duties as required.
  • Negotiate carrier contracts, including rates and payment terms.
  • Assign carriers to load our TMS.
  • Track loads ensuring on time pick up and deliveries are met and record performances.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

1+ Year Transportation Sales Experience required. You are firm in negotiations and know how to manage both customer and carrier relationships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform in an environment with rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines. A strong book of business or loyal customer base is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Able to multi-task and navigate multiple computer applications such as: E-mails, DAT Key Point, DAT Power, HubSpot, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

High energy, competitive and feel energized when you see results. Dedicated to service and do not shy away from difficult conversations. A self-starter who seeks to make an impact with your work. Someone looking to create awareness and work as a partner with your customers and carriers to craft solutions. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will be an energetic and fast paced office environment. Occasional travel and trips to cross docks is likely. Up to 15% travel is required.

What We Do

Carter started its business in 1982 with just a couple of trucks moving parts from suppliers to various automotive assembly plants. Today, we are well known within the manufacturing industry as a world-class logistics company.

In 1993, Carter started operating dedicated milk runs for a single customer. In 1998 the company created its first Shared Milk Run by adding a customer who was purchasing materials from common suppliers. This was the beginning of our Shared Milk Run Network, a business model that supports manufacturing companies who have implemented lean manufacturing practices. Our customers know we will be identifying and driving waste out of the supply chain daily and passing the savings on to them.

Our customers continually wanted us to do more for them; they wanted one call for all of their logistics needs. In 2002 Carter Logistics was formed to provide a full array of transportation services to our customer base. Today we are contracted with over 150 truckload carriers and 10 less than truckload carriers providing services to over 500 customers.

In 2008, Carter began to open cross dock locations strategically placed along the NAFTA highway. Carter currently operates six (6) cross docks located in Romulus, MI, Anderson, IN, Dayton, OH, Andersonville, TN, Paragould, AR and Laredo, TX.
