Software Mind develops solutions that make an impact for companies around the globe. Tech giants & unicorns, transformative projects, emerging technologies and limitless opportunities – these are a few words that describe an average day for us. Building cross-functional engineering teams that take ownership and crave more means we’re always on the lookout for talented people who bring passion and creativity to every project. Our culture embraces openness, acts with respect, shows grit & guts and combines employment with enjoyment.
Project – the aim you’ll have
You will join an internal OpenStack team that designs, deploys and operates private and sovereign cloud platforms for enterprise clients in Western Europe, including a Benelux managed service provider exiting VMware. Environments range from multi region platforms across several data centres to compact telco and edge clusters. Key selling points: you own the architecture, the same team operates the platform afterwards, and you work directly with client architects.
Position – how you’ll contribute
- Own the platform architecture across control plane, compute, storage and network, including the high availability model and resource sizing.
- Produce the design documentation: High Level Design, Low Level Design, as built documentation and operational runbooks.
- Deploy and upgrade the platform with Kolla-Ansible, with configuration maintained as code in Git.
- Integrate storage, networking, identity and load balancing: Cinder, OVN and Open vSwitch, Keystone with OIDC federation, Octavia and Barbican.
- Set up metrics and logging, and integrate the platform with the client ServiceNow CMDB.
- Run technical workshops, design reviews and acceptance testing with client representatives.
- Act as third line escalation for platforms under management and lead root cause analysis.
- Support pre sales as technical expert and provide technical guidance to engineers in the team.
Expectations – the experience you need
- At least 6 years in infrastructure, virtualisation or cloud platforms, including 3 years with OpenStack in production.
- Experience designing OpenStack architecture, with at least one full implementation from design to production handover.
- Strong command of the core services: Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Glance, Cinder, Placement and Horizon, plus Octavia and Barbican.
- Deployment and upgrade experience with Kolla-Ansible, including playbook customisation and containerised service lifecycle.
- Advanced Linux administration, KVM and libvirt virtualisation, and container runtimes such as Docker.
- Troubleshooting experience across MariaDB or Galera, RabbitMQ, HAProxy, Keepalived, Redis and Memcached.
- Solid cloud networking background: OVN and Open vSwitch, GENEVE or VXLAN overlays, VLAN provider networks, NAT and floating IP addresses.
- English at C1 level, sufficient to run technical workshops and design reviews with client architects independently.
Additional skills – the edge you have
- VMware exit and migration programmes towards OpenStack, including migration tooling and wave planning.
- Enterprise storage integration through Cinder drivers, for example NetApp ONTAP over NFS, or Ceph.
- Telco workloads on OpenStack: SR-IOV, DPDK, CPU pinning, huge pages and NUMA aware scheduling.
- Terraform or OpenTofu, Kubernetes on OpenStack, GPU enabled compute nodes.
- ServiceNow, in particular ITOM Discovery and the CMDB model, or experience in an ITIL based service model.
- Familiarity with sovereign cloud regulatory requirements in the public sector and financial services.
Our offer – professional development, personal growth:
- Flexible employment and remote work
- International projects with leading global clients
- International business trips
- Non-corporate atmosphere
- Language classes
- Internal & external training
- Private healthcare and insurance
- Multisport card
