The Role

This is a paid freelance, remote position.

If you’re an experienced writer with a finger on the pulse of the Film & Television world, CBR wants you to join its award-winning writing team! CBR is the oldest and most respected comic book culture website in the world. It is the internet’s first and final stop for nerd culture, news, commentary and community.

Our editorial team is looking for writers to create original and informative Movie & Television Features articles that our discerning audience demands, with the eye-catching aesthetic they crave. CBR operates at a rapid pace and is seeking writers who can produce high-quality articles under time constraints. The selected candidate will have tremendous career growth and internal development opportunities within the organization.

Please visit www.cbr.com and review your familiarity with our range of topics before applying. In your cover letter, make sure to tell us how your knowledge of the specific vertical you’re applying for will complement CBR’s coverage.

What we are looking for:

  • A passion for the content and a drive to grow within the industry
  • Previous writing experience (Editing experience is a plus)
  • Broad working knowledge of the Film & Television world (including Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon, MCU, sitcoms, Sci-fi, Star Wars and the Walking Dead).
  • The ability to analyze content and pull directly from the source material to back up claims
  • A sharp eye for grammatical details
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to write high-quality articles with swift turn-around times
  • Comfortable working in an entirely virtual environment
    • Should possess a general understanding of the culture and strong research skill

Responsibilities

  • Write articles in CBR’s house style (following the requisite training).
    • This will include fact-checking, formatting, linking, and image sourcing/very basic editing (sizing, brightness, etc.)
  • Brainstorm, pitch, and develop original content ideas
  • Accept and apply any/all feedback received by the editorial team
  • Communicate openly and actively with the editorial team

What CBR has to offer:

  • Fully remote — write from anywhere in North America or the UK
  • Opportunities to pitch original ideas
  • Several helpful guides that you can refer to even after training
  • Incredible opportunities for career growth within a supportive system
  • An amazing community of like-minded people to nerd-out with on a daily basis

NOTE: Only applications containing a resume and cover letter will be considered. It is essential that you demonstrate your breadth of knowledge of Movie/TV content in your cover letter. You will not be considered for the role if this information is not included. Please note that the next step in the hiring process involves a writing evaluation.

We look forward to hearing from you!

What We Do

CBR (formerly Comic Book Resources) was founded in 1995 and quickly became the go-to source for comics industry news, discussion, and community. Over two decades, the site has amassed a readership of 60 million-plus users, including 75 thousand members of the CBR community forums. Our goal is to supply anyone interested in comic books, superheroes, and geek entertainment with information and resources that will provide a greater appreciation and investment in the medium (whether you’re a lifelong comic book enthusiast or a casual superhero movie fan). Despite mixed backgrounds in publishing, journalism, and creative writing, CBR editors, writers, and contributors have one thing in common: a passion for the comics industry. CBR also has the honor of publishing columns and features from the most well-known names in comics - writers, artists, and publishers, including: Warren Ellis, Erik Larsen, Steven Grant, Robert Kirkman, Gail Simone, and Mark Millar, to name a few.
