Mortgage Strategic Initiatives Specialist

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
Supports the success of a high-performing mortgage organization by helping to champion process improvement practices and culture, which will enhance operational efficiency and member experience. The incumbent uses industry expertise and workflow knowledge to evaluate current mortgage processes and functions.
When opportunities are identified, incumbent will support AVP, Mortgage Strategic Initiatives & Analytics in the development of a project plan that identifies the key steps and associated timelines. Will partner with all areas across Real Estate Lending to include, identifying efficiencies for the enhancement of our processes within our mortgage platform. Incumbent is responsible for a wide range of mortgage projects that impact Real Estate Lending.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Helps support and foster an environment in which continuous improvement in mortgage business processes and services are welcomed and recognized.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve work processes, enhance quality of service and productivity, and communicate opportunities.
  • Works with staff to support solutions, methods, and training needed for Real Estate Lending’s success. This also involves staying up to date with the latest mortgage best practices and developments, streamlining processes and creating efficiencies.
  • Supports all priorities provided by VP, Mortgage Strategy & Transformation to include strategic goals.
  • Supports a mortgage and credit union culture focused on a member service, continuous improvement, and performance measurement.
  • Supports the implementation of tools and platforms that measure success of process improvement initiatives.
  • Supports the Real Estate Lending department general projects as determined by leadership.
  • Documents test plans, test cases, executes test cases and assigns test cases to testers for cycle testing and post-production validation.
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory, mortgage department policy, procedure and process changes, and communicates information to training and necessary departments within current process. 
  • The incumbent will assist the M&A process on the integration of mortgage activities from acquired financial institutions into VyStar. 
  • Supports the mortgage lending team through survey results to drive employee engagement through a variety of facets; events, activities, communication channels such as SharePoint, etc.
  • Responsible for collaborating with cross functional teams and identified third parties to document ongoing mortgage lending efforts needed on acquired institutions to prepare for Legal Day 1, through conversion and post conversion.
  • Support the management of Real Estate Lending third-party vendors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • All employees and business units, as first line of defense, are expected to proactively help identify, assess, manage, and report risks within their domain of work. To enhance a healthy risk culture and support our growth for good pillar, employees will maintain vigilance in safeguarding our operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates. The Risk team serves as the second line of defense by providing risk oversight and credible challenge whereas the Audit team serves as the third line of defense by providing risk assurance.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Continuing education is required for mortgage industry updates and regulatory environment.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years of mortgage lending industry experience required.
  • Experience with mortgage processes, products, guidelines and loan regulations are required.
  • Minimum 2 years of testing mortgage originations with servicing preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the mergers and acquisition process.
  • Very strong analytical, comprehension and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Avid and positive team player who works well across a multi-disciplined organization and possesses strong personal integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and is a self-starter.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage rapidly changing assignments in a team environment.
  • Exhibits flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments.
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio), and SharePoint.
  • Development and Training experience is preferred.
