The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The molding process engineer / specialist provides divisions with expertise and direction in the areas of manufacturing and molding operations through Best Practice sharing and process optimization initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Use knowledge of Magna Exteriors' molding processes to mentor divisional personnel and assist with new facility launches, new program launches and continuous improvement projects / processes, optimizing overhead costs, process repeatability, capacity utilization, and customer quality standards.
  • Identify and lead process optimization initiatives, focusing on new technology concepts, cost savings, and improved performance
  • Facilitate best practice sharing and validate divisional process adherence to Best Business Practices
  • Participate in/lead divisional Tooling and process reviews
  • Facilitate improvements in labor efficiency
  • Support the development of procedures and training protocols to ensure that process improvement changes are systemic and self-sustaining
  • Ensure the accuracy of the data collection systems and support the network of equipment for overall efficiency tracking
  • Manage capital, plant and process improvement projects, verifying implementation and achievement of quality, process repeatability and production efficiency objectives
  • Identify gaps in divisional personnel key skill set and provide necessary training
  • Participate in tool trial to ensure flawless new program launch
  • Improve and/or support the predictive and preventative maintenance programs
  • Oversee and ensure that best practices are implemented and used in the divisions, establishing process and maintenance activities consistent with Magna Exteriors KPI expectations
  • Incorporate best practices and lessons learned into process designs and communicate lessons learned for the benefit of other programs.
  • Identify and report any problems relating to the product, process, equipment including auxiliary equipment, and quality system.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Education/Skills/Special Knowledge - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study. Alternatively, 12 years equivalent experience in molding and manufacturing technologies.
Experience - Minimum 3 years relevant supervisory experience
Physical Demands/Work Environment - Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 35 lbs. Frequent travel to divisions and suppliers is necessary.
