SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Surfacing/Look Dev Artist at Sony Pictures Animation.
The Surfacing artist is responsible for look development, which may be used in production. They will report to the Global VFX Supervisor and follow the designs from the Production Designer and Art Director. They help develop the overall look and style aesthetic of textures and surfacing looks for the production.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide UV unwrapping, Surfacing and Texturing
- Lighting and Compositing is also expected as part of Look Dev
- Assemble the textures into a shading network and tweaks its lookdev to accurately match the references
- Work independently on defined tasks, but in collaboration with artists and supervisors in modeling, shading, and lighting during the look development process.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ideally 3 plus years of experience in CG television animation or equivalent experience (ie - VFX, Video Games, VR)
- Experience UV’ing and Surfacing in Maya
- Experience Texturing in Substance Painter
- Knowledge of Marvelous Designer a bonus (willingness to learn, a bonus as well)
- Knowledge of Groom/Hair a bonus (willingness to learn, a bonus as well)
- Knowledge and interest in being involved with the technical aspects of the pipeline and helping drive it
- Able and experienced with look dev as well as production ready assets
The anticipated base salary for this position is $2,255.20 to $3,000/week. This role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors.
