Transportation Navigator
Salary: $47,310.04-73,183.07 annually
This job is located in the Mobility Management Division of the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority dba EMBARK. Employees of this classification perform work of a specialized nature involving skills, knowledge and abilities, which are normally acquired prior to assuming the position. The position is responsible for supporting a workforce development program by assisting participants in navigating the transportation landscape, identifying options for transportation services, and utilizing public transportation to support career development.
Essential job function include:
- Working with web and application-based transportation scheduling software
- Onboarding program participants and scheduling transportation
- Providing transportation orientations and travel training
- Participating in outreach events
- Preparing and presenting program orientations using PowerPoint or other presentation tools
- Assisting participants with trip planning and navigating the city effectively
- Frequent collaboration with case managers and job developers
- The successful candidate must adapt to the stress involved in working with a large client base, solving emergent problems, and responding to urgent situations
- Tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy are required when communicating with employees, social service providers, and the public
- This position is expected to make decisions concerning priorities, sequence of events, and procedures to be followed
- Other duties include but are not limited to the maintenance of office records, logs, or work aids (and/or maps/scheduling and routing software) used by the employee
- The Transportation Navigator will use scheduling software, office records, data files, and maps as necessary to schedule transportation, trouble-shoot transportation problems, and communicate detailed information to program participants and social service providers as required
- This employee works independently, following prescribed procedures with only unusual situations referred to a supervisor
- Work is reviewed through client’s satisfaction, performance metrics, and appraisal by the supervisor
Work involves various clerical tasks using a personal computer to access a variety of computer software packages, including the Microsoft Office Suite. The employee will also use an office copier and communicate with other administrative and supervisory personnel via email

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of coursework/training/work experience in the fields of social services, mental health, substance abuse, or case management.
- Must be able to successfully complete and maintain CPR and 1st Aid Training
JOB PREFERENCES
3 Plus years of professional experience in social services, non-profit, youth and family services, Veteran’s services, and/or services to individuals with disabilities
Formal training and certification and/or three (3) plus years professional experience with Microsoft office suite and connective technology.
1 plus years Transit/transportation schedule management.
Experience with public speaking.
Demonstrated experience with de-escalation and working with individuals in crisis.
Fluent in Spanish

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily indoors, subject to sitting, standing, walking, or using a telephone for extended periods of time
- Subject to continuous exposure to light and glare from a CRT or monitor
- Subject to frequent levels of noise of a keyboard, copying machine, telephone, and other office equipment
- Subject to working in a confined area near others with frequent interruptions
- Primarily inside a climate-controlled environment, however, travel training activities and orientations are conducted in an outdoor environment on a public transit vehicle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read data and information on a computer monitor
Speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly in English
Hearing enough to understand telephone and two-way radio conversations in a noisy environment
Arm-hand steadiness and finger dexterity enough to operate office equipment such as telephone, TDD, personal computer, and office equipment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment physical that will include a urine drug screen and a background check.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
Difficulty
Work involves following prescribed procedures in communication with others by telephone and in writing. The employee is responsible for accurately relaying and recording information. This may involve reacting to a number of calls received simultaneously and making decisions as to the proper procedures to be carried out relative to a specific call. Variables encountered are numerous and both concrete and abstract in nature. A supervisor is available to make major decisions concerning unusual problems or situations.
Interpersonal Relations
The employee has frequent contact with outside agency personnel, citizens and supervisors to provide and/or obtain services/information related to work activities. Information is of a detailed and recurring nature requiring some explanation or interpretation of facts.
Supervision Received
Employee works independently in maintaining communications via telephone and modem/fax. Products are subject to review on a regular basis by supervisory personnel, social service providers and citizen/client input. Detailed instructions are provided for new procedures or changes in existing procedures. Supervisor can be contacted when unusual situations occur.

The board is comprised of 8-members; 3 members serve by position, the Mayor of Oklahoma City, the City Manager and the City Finance Director. The five remaining trustees are appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council. One of the five members must live outside the city limits of Oklahoma City. In accordance with the inter-local operating agreement between COTPA and the City, the Administrator of COTPA is appointed by the City Manager and approved by the COTPA board.
