Description

The Mobile Crisis Clinician (MCC) reports to the Program Supervisor or designee and is a direct service position requiring general behavioral health knowledge and specific knowledge and skill in provision of crisis response services in the community. The MCC is responsible for responding to crisis calls that require face-to-face intervention and stabilization. This is a salaried position with the expectation for flexibility for evening and weekend hours to meet client needs. The MCC shall be in compliance with all state and federal regulations and adhere to all PCS policies and standards of practice maintaining the highest level of professional conduct and ethics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Respond directly to the natural environment of individuals accessing crisis services for assessment and immediate stabilization of acute symptoms of mental illness, alcohol and other drug use, and emotional distress.

· Conduct initial crisis assessments of individuals accessing crisis services and create short-term follow-up plans as clinically indicated.

· Provide initial crisis counseling and continue short-term as specified in follow-up plan.

· Determine most appropriate disposition for the individual; prioritize safety, least intensive/restrictive level of care, and warm handoffs to community supports and services.

· Facilitate completion of indicated disposition, which may include safety planning and/or connection to community supports; Petition for Emergency Evaluation and transport to hospital; referrals; warm handoff to services; collaboration and coordination with partners.

· Develop and maintain professional relationships with individuals, their support system, first responders, Potomac Community Services (PCS) staff and community agencies to provide best care.

· Coordinate services to individuals through effective interface and active collaboration with various partners including program components, external organizations, and first responders.

· Participate in short-term follow-up planning using a person-centered approach including develop follow-up plan ideas based on referral information and discussions with individuals served and with team; conduct follow-up meetings and/or phone calls with individuals served, their identified supports and identified team members if indicated.

· Conduct frequent assessment of need for crisis services and follow-up intervention, developing transition plans based on individual need.

 Essential Job Duties for Mobile Crisis Clinical Supervisor

  • Provide clinical support and consultation directly to mobile crisis licensed mental health professionals and paraprofessionals
  • Maintain on call responsibilities, assist with shift coverage, and respond with the team to crisis calls in the community.
  • Assist with training and onboarding new staff
  • Work with mobile crisis staff on continued skill development and adherence to standards set by Maryland Behavioral Health Administration.
  • Be board approved to supervise in Social Work or Counseling
  • Assist with documentation review and data reporting

· Shares knowledge and resource information with coworkers and other PCS staff.

· Acts as liaison for PCS with community agencies and other local mental health agencies and providers, promoting positive and effective communication.

· Attends and participates in all scheduled monthly staff meetings.

· Attends all PCS events as scheduled.

· Safeguards the confidentiality of records in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations governing confidentiality.

· Promotes PCS internally and externally in positive and professional manner.

· Utilizes PCS resources and equipment appropriately and efficiently, including but not limited to PCS laptop, phone and vehicles.

· Maintains good working relationship with other staff members/supervisors and contributes to positive work environment.

· Maintains safe driving record and self-awareness for safety purposes.

· Maintains confidentiality of staff, clients, and PCS business practices.

· Completes all necessary trainings and adheres to all policies as required by the local hospital in accordance with the appropriate county.

· Adheres to all PCS published policies including but not limited to: Time & Attendance, (tardiness, absences) and Dress Code (including wearing company ID Badge).

· Records time using the approved payroll system, completing calendar as required, in an accurate and timely manner.

· Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

· Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office and community environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines. In addition, familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and any additional programs or equipment used to execute specific tasks as required for the role.

· Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb is a requirement for this job. An employee must possess the ability to crawl, crouch, kneel, and stoop while performing job functions. Employees are required to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds during the workday. Workers must be able to use their hands and arms for gross and fine -motor activities throughout the workday. Gross-motor activities include, but are not limited to, picking, pinching, and touching. Fine-motor activities include, but are not limited to, seizing, holding, grasping, and turning. Employees are required to be able to use fine and gross-motor skills concurrently. In addition, employees are required to work around individuals in the community where unfamiliar people are present, and movement may be restricted.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Mental Health Professional with a minimum of a master’s degree.
  • Must be licensed by the State of Maryland to practice in the profession of social work or professional counseling.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ working history with individuals that have mental health, substance use, or crisis relevant experience.
  • In good standing with State of Maryland licensing board related to profession.

Requirements:

  • Professional Licensure required (minimum of LMSW or LGPC) with trajectory to be LCSW-C or LCPC.
  • Flexibility in schedule to include evening and weekend hours while having the ability to work independently and prioritize daily schedule to best address the needs of clients.
  • Maintains professional liability insurance recommended.
  • Valid Driver’s license, dependable transportation of a 4-passenger vehicle and vehicle insurance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of crisis intervention principles and techniques including ability to assess crisis situations for safety and security.
  • Ability to provide goal-oriented crisis intervention and stabilization.
  • Knowledgeable regarding community resources related to mental health and case management.
  • Professional with excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Skills Required

  • Mental Health Professional with a minimum of a master's degree
  • Must be licensed by the State of Maryland
  • Minimum of 3 years' working history with mental health or crisis experience
  • Flexibility to include evening and weekend hours
  • Valid Driver's license and insurance
