PURPOSE
The Ministry Consultant for chaplaincy is responsible for enlisting, endorsing, advocating, training, and supporting the Chaplains of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA). This ministry consultant will also participate in the general consulting work of Thrive.
This position is 30 hours/week.
The starting salary for this position is $74,739.60/year USD or $76,050/year CAD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following
- Administer the denominational endorsement process and its five-year renewal requirements for chaplains associated with the CRCNA.
- Provide pastoral support, care, and advocacy for chaplains serving in specialized settings, and monitor the Covenants of Joint Supervision that exist between the chaplains’ calling churches and their places of work.
- Conduct continuing education through annual training, regional gatherings, etc., for the training and encouragement of CRCNA chaplains.
- Recruit and identify chaplain candidates who are fit for ministry as a chaplain. Assist chaplain candidates through their education and specialized training.
- Administer the training grants in the budget and the Chaplains Development Fund
- Promote and celebrate CRCNA chaplaincy, chaplain resources, and related ministries through written communications, engaging social media, and the development of resources.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with external persons and organizations involved in chaplaincy support and endorsement. Maintain contact with national endorsement-related organizations and credentialing associations for chaplains (U.S. and Canada; civilian and military).
- Participate in the work of the Thrive Engage Team, collaborating closely with Thrive’s other ministry consultants for overall congregational and pastoral health.
- Participate in Thrive’s ministry related to clergy wellbeing.
- Ensure Thrive can equip councils to address challenges to clergy marriages, provide supportive and educational events for clergy couples, and curate an up-to-date roster of reliable therapy providers for the chaplains endorsed by the CRCNA.
- Other duties as assigned by the Thrive Engage Team leader.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Professing membership in a Christian Reformed congregation, or of a church in communion with the CRCNA, and agreement with the doctrine of the church signified by signing a covenant statement.
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, leadership, and administrative skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to, and capacity for, working as part of a team.
- Demonstrated intermediate computer and digital communication skills.
- Knowledge of organizations that support the Professional and Ecclesiastical processes for chaplains: endorsing bodies; certifying bodies; professional associations, etc.
- Knowledge of military structures and procedures or a willingness to learn, especially regarding endorsement and training of Chaplain Candidates.
- Cross-cultural and multi-faith interaction awareness.
- Ordination in the Christian Reformed Church is beneficial.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry, social work, clinical counseling, or related fields is required; a master's is preferred.
- Significant biblical/theological education and understanding are required.
- Advanced experience serving as a chaplain and a chaplain endorsement by a faith group are required.
- Four units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) or 1600 hours of equivalent chaplain training are required.
- Board certification (or willingness to pursue certification) as a chaplain or equivalent within two years of hire is preferred.
