Associate SATCOM Systems Engineer (PBWO)
Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado Area
Description: Excellent position for motivated personnel to learn end-to-end Protected Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) systems, management, and operations in preparation for future opportunities and advancement in those communities. Supports U.S. Space Force’s (USSF) Protected Band (PB) SATCOM Systems Experts (C-SSE) as a Protected Band Watch Officer (PBWO). The PBWO provides continuous (24/7/365) assistance to SATCOM users, providers, and managers in monitoring, reporting and resolving Protected MILSATCOM system related issues. The PBWO maintains continuous global situational awareness (SA) for all Department of Defense (DoD) Protected MILSATCOM systems on behalf of the PB C-SSE, Single Integrated Operations Division (SIOD) and Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC).
Specific Duties:
- PBWO gathers and consolidates constellation planning, Resource Monitoring (RM) and usage data from the Mission Planning Element (MPE), Joint Integrated SATCOM Tool (JIST), Joint SATCOM Management and Planning System (JSMPS), Regional SATCOM Support Center (RSSC) trending reports, etc.
- Performs operational impact assessments to determine global operational impacts of any occurrence of anomalies in Protected MILSATCOM (e.g., satellite bus, crosslinks, payload degradation, crypto, C2, etc.)
- Conducts immediate chat or voice reporting to Satellite Operations Centers (SOC), SIOD and CSpOC
- Performs assessment to determine all aspects of causes and conditions of satellite anomalies with recovery actions for accurate up-channel reporting and potential user impacts
- Research, generate, release, update, and close SATCOM Event Messages (SEM) in time-sensitive environment
- Act in support role to the single, central focal point for all Protected SATCOM operations, ready to brief the Protected Operations Global SA picture to Command Staff at any time
Required Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in military or commercial SATCOM, preferably in Protected Military SATCOM (MILSATCOM) systems—including Milstar, AEHF, Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Follow On EHF/EHF-Enhanced (UFO-E/EE), Interim Polar System (IPS), Enhance Polar System (EPS), EPS-Recapitalization (EPS-R) and/or follow-on Protected MILSATCOM constellations (e.g., ESS, PATS, etc.).
- Able to work shifts (e.g., days, swings, and mids; 7 days a week; including holidays)—company provides very flexible holiday and Paid Time Off (PTO) to offset this burden!
- Outstanding attention to detail, willingness to learn and ability to apply lessons learned in dynamic work environment
- Comfortably and effectively speak in front of military, government and contractor leadership and colleagues
- Independently conduct shift requirements with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of MILSATCOM software tools desired—e.g., Mission Planning Element (MPE), EPS Control and Planning System (CAPS), Satellite Access Requests/Approvals (SAR/SAA), JIST, JSMPS, etc.
- Ideal candidates will have experience in SATCOM Command and Control (C2), payload and spacecraft health and monitoring, and/or Defensive/Offensive Counter Space (DCS/OCS)
- Understanding of the Protected MILSATCOM management and user community, resource allocation, reporting, and strategic and tactical mission areas is a plus!
Clearance and Travel Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active US Top Secret security clearance and ability to obtain SCI eligibility
- Must be located within commuting distance of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado or be willing to relocate to the area
- Travel is NOT required
Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 yearly
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Current TOP SECRET SCI eligible, required
